Forums - Gaming Discussion - Microsoft announces Xbox Live for any iOS or Android game (Also open for Switch and PS4)

That's pretty neat. Hopefully the achievements for mobile are easy.

I sign into enough stuff already just to play a game.

I'll assume xcloud will come to those devices then?

Gamerscore? Achievements? Pfff.
*polishes platinum trophies*

It's funny how I both prefer the overall scoring mechanic of gamerscore (I like the idea of saying "I have xxxx thousand score") but I also prefer the overall idea of the individual achievements having their own awards (like bronze/silver/gold/platinum).

This is Microsoft unofficially abandoning Xbox hardware, even if they technically release a "next gen" console. You can already play every XB1 "exclusive" on the PC which is a disincentive to getting an XB1. Now there is really no incentive to get their hardware. Just pick the hardware you like the best instead.

Microsoft end game is a service available everywhere. Basically an APP Like Netflix or youtube you can download on anything but Xbox is becoming more and more irrelevant like that.

At first glance, this doesn't seem to hurt, so I'm slightly intrigued by this. For Microsoft, this seems like a good strategy to pursue.

It'll be interesting to see if anyone really uses this. Google already has their own game tracking service for Android, and they do achievements similar to how Sony does them. Not sure if Apple does.

Adding the ability to get achievements, friend lists, stats on already existing iOS/android games means end of the Xbox hardware...?

At least read the OP guys....

Edit: Its even in the title lol.

Quoting from the article:

"Xbox Live features like achievements, Gamerscore, hero stats, friend lists, clubs, and even some family settings will all be available on iOS and Android.

It’s all part of a bigger push from Microsoft to make its Xbox games and services available across multiple platforms."

You are on the right track, but you need to read the next sentence.  This is part of a bigger push to make Xbox games and services available on as many platforms as possible.

Yeah but like I said "end game" all of this is just the beginning.

They will still have an xbox lying around but if one day their "Netflix like service" is available on PS5 for example, will anyone need to buy an xbox if he can have 2 consoles in one system.

I think microsoft care more about this new services " getting more people/subscribers" than the sales of xbox.

Those sales are a bonus but not the main focus anymore
