Octopath Traveler (NS) receives a prequel "Champions of the Continent" for IOS/Android

Forums - Gaming Discussion - Octopath Traveler (NS) receives a prequel "Champions of the Continent" for IOS/Android

The new IP and runaway success story from Square Enix last summer will receive a new game destined for smartphone devices.

The game is a prequel set a few years back before the events of the main game. A new cast of 8 characters with their own stories, new locations (even though it still on the same continent), tweaks to the battle system allowing for 8 party members on the battlefield will be part of the game. Each month will also bring a new stories (New characters I guess) to explore. It's a single player experience, no multiplayer element present in the mix.

The game is free-to-play with microtransactions into the mix (Don't how it'll work though.)

The developpement of the game was done by another dev team than the now restructured Division 11. It took 2 years.

Seems like there's a change on how the narrative experience is handled too.

"The arrangement of narrative in this is different too. It takes place years before the first game, but instead of picking individual characters to play, you select one of three main paths, and there will be multiple characters in those paths."

Conviniently the Hot Topic section on the homepage shortens the title after the for, so I came into this thread with a big smile, only to be instantly disappointed by the smartphone platforms.

Anyways, nice that more Octopath traveler is coming. Hopefully this gets a Switch port for a fixed price with micro-transactions removed (something that happens to quite some mobile games, so this hope isn't completely useless).

Predictions: Switch / Switch vs. XB1 in the US / Three Houses first quarter

Will this sell more than Octopath traveler?

Though it would be a sequel on Switch, ok then. Enjoy it on smartphone.

It's free to play. I expect it will be downloaded more than OT.

They confirmed a sequel, so this is just a hold over I guess

Booooo!

Wish they would have made this for Switch (without the MTs), I really enjoyed OT :(

I'm sad this is smartphone not Switch, but they confirmed a sequel for consoles, so I'm happy with that. Hopefully we hear something about it soon

Then all is good in the world.
