I think that one is fanmade. Probably just guessing at what he looks like from the silhouette they released. The others seem real, though.

You'd think that Sega or Paramount would have torpedoed it already if it was fake, but they've both been silent. Also, the leaked model matches up with an interview that the movies producers did in December, where they said that Sega was unhappy with the eyes of the model that they created and that they were redesigning his shoes to try and interpret what a modern day, real world Sonic might wear.

The worst thing about the shoes is that there is a better looking pair of Nike shoes that he could have wore, which look far more like the shoes he has always wore, so if they have a brand deal with Nike that forces them to use Nike shoes, why not use the pair that actually looks right?

Hopefully Yuji Naka is right and they purposefully leaked the model to gauge the communities' reaction before deciding rather to use the new model they designed or a model that looks more like traditional Sonic before they actually spend millions of dollars adding him into the movies scenes via CGI.

To me, that makes it more believable. Product placement is exactly the kind of poor decision to be expecting from a team that devised this abomination.

I'm kinda loving some of the internet backlash to this reveal or leak though, could mean it gets canned.

Fancy hearing me on an amateur podcast with friends gushing over one of my favourite games? https://youtu.be/1I7JfMMxhf8

Given that they are already box arts/posters of this movie in theaters everywhere, there's less than a 5% chance they change that model, which is a damn shame.

How not to love the internet?

And one more edit from the same person:

Another Sonic edit! This time I wanted to test the "separated eyes" concept the movie design has, so I only applied small changes to the eyes shape and nose. What do you guys think?

She got retweeted by Sonic's creator:

Who doesn't seem happy with the design.

“Sonic’s design in the upcoming movie adaptation was leaked instead of being officially revealed. I think it’s part of the movie’s marketing strategy and they purposely leaked it, but it triggered a lot of negative reactions, which may also damage Sonic’s image as an IP so it’s not a good thing. Well, it’s also possible these pictures are fakes made by some fans, but I wish they’d at least give him a pair of gloves. It’s really shocking how Sonic’s hands themselves are white.”

In another tweet, he also stated how they could have done a better job when it comes to the proportions of Sonic’s body.

The funniest part is that while a massive media maker spending milions of dolars and thousands of work hours from several people can only come with this, it doesn't take a random person in the internet half a day to do a decent job for free.

Tails Channel sources say that these leaked designs are real but aren't finalized. Hopefully they took note of all of the criticism after the leak and will at the very least fix the eye shape, and give him a better pair of shoes and his white gloves. Doubt they will go as far as to change his musculature unfortunately.
