Skyrim. After reaching the 200h and having pretty much finished every feasible quest available, it gives you a strange mixed feeling of closure and emptiness. You have pretty much solved every problem you could solve in Skyrim, but you want to keep going...

Ugh - you know, I started Skyrim on the Switch about a year ago and made it past the first dragon...     ...and then, that was it - I just couldn't get into the game!! I don't know why that is, as I've heard nothing but great things about the game (and the series in general)!! I guess I'm just not all that into true RPG games (I can enjoy Pokemon which is RPGish - but not a "real" RPG like Skyrim). I know back in my C64 days (yeah, I'm old!!) I used to LOVE The Bard's Tale series and all of the AD&D games - but I have yet to find an modern RPG game that I like...

Didn't think you actually play games Talon. Thought collecting and coding is all you do. ;P

I always try to play, whenever I can - but my gaming typically comes in binges, unfortunately. I'll find some free time and then plow through a game like Tomb Raider (playing it for 6-8hrs a day, every day for a week!!!)...    ...and then find myself not playing another game for weeks at a time, because I'm too damn busy. Which, in a sense, is one of the reasons for starting this very thread!! I'm hoping to identify my next game, so that when I do manage scrape up some more gaming time for myself, I'll already know exactly which game to pull from my shelf!!

Persona 5, Skyward Sword, Xenoblade Chronicles, Breath of the Wild, Twilight Princess,

I've seen that Persona series mentioned in this thread a couple of times, already - and I'm surprised to see that I don't actually have any of them on my shelf at the moment!!!

Would you say Persona 5 is the best in the series? Would somebody new to the series be able to jump right into the 5th installment? Or, would they be better served by starting from the beginning?

I can't answer the first question honestly, since Persona 5 is the first, and only, game of the series I have played. With that said, I can answer the 2nd question with a whole-hearted YES!!!

World of Warcraft. Unlike most games, you can't just replay this game like it was originally because it was updated.

FFX and FFVIII ending also made it difficult to play other games after.

I'm sure there are lots, but recently, RDR2, currently doing my 2nd playthrough.

Nintendo Switch FC: SW-6340-7643-4233 aka Renji

Steam: Lee Roid

Here are a few that come to mind:

Freedom Force - Fantastic gameplay and fantastic story.  It starts good and then proceeds to get better and better.  By the time I beat the last mission, I felt the game was just too short.  I ended up spending months just playing fan-made scenarios because I just didn't want the game to end.  They weren't as good as the actual game, but they were the closest I could get until the sequel came out.

Heroes of Might and Magic 2 - This is another one with great gameplay.  And again, once I finished the main campaign I played most of the one-shot scenarios that came with it.  Not as good as the campaign, but I had to take what I could get.

Katamari Damacy - This wonderful game is just far too short.  I still go back and play it, because the sequels don't quite live up to the original.

D&D Tower of Doom - The first time I beat this game, I was left wanting many, many more levels.  Since then I have beat the game countless times.

Sonic the Hedgehog - I beat this game for the first time last year.  When I originally had a Genesis, I always gave up at the water level (the only bad part of the whole game).  Well I went back and found my favorite levels were after the water level.  When I finally beat the game, something clicked inside me that I hadn't felt in decades.  It had just been a really long time since I beat such a well crafted single player platformer.  They really don't make games like this anymore.

And the very best example is...
The O.G. Legend of Zelda -  I remember the first time I beat this game, I realized that I had just played perfection in gaming form.  It simply had fantastic exploration and combat and most of all freedom.  I realized that the game truely was worthy of the golden box and cartridge.  After I beat Ganon and went to save the princess I felt both a sense of great satisfaction and great sadness.  I had just played the most perfect game ever made and now it was over.  As the credits rolled, I wished that it wasn't over, that somehow I could keep playing this amazing game.  And then a very magical thing happened....

My wish came true!  They gave me a whole another second quest with the same magnitude as the first.  In fact, the second quest seemed bigger, because it definitely took me longer to beat it than the original, lol.  It's the one game where I wished it wouldn't end and it actually didn't.  It didn't rely on just replayability or post-game content.  It gave me a whole another quest just like the first one.  That is one of the many reasons why I consider the O.G. Zelda, the greatest game of all time!

Recently it was SteamWorld Dig 2 and not long before that Velocity 2X.

Mariokart & Animal Crossing. I know you cannot technically finish these games, but-

After I play all the tracks in Mariokart I always want more. Although I have to say Mario Kart 8 is amazing (my favourite Mariokart) because of how many tracks & diverse they are. Plus with the never-ending online matches it has the best replay-ability (along-side Smash Bros & Splatoon 2) which is super addictive. So I don't mind completing Mariokart 8, its just all the other previous Mariokart games that always made me feel like I wanted more after I completed them.

Also, when you pay off your debt to Tom Nook and get the largest house I feel like a multimillionaire that has it all and I cannot work towards anything anymore.

Fixed.

Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII.

.....Zack is such an awesome character but you know what was going to happen at the end.

This game needs to be remaster/remake! Doesn't deserve to be stuck on the PSP! Needs the home console treatment!!!

Most recently, Celeste.

It was a very fulfilling and rewarding game, and despite feeling extremely accomplished that I finished it, I was a little sad I had finally cleared every peak.
