Do you prefer Subspace Emissary or World of Light?

Supspace Emissary 31 58.49%

World of Light 22 41.51%

Subspace wins for me for the obvious reasons of level, cutscenes and character interaction (kinda) but I would have enjoyed WoL a lot more if there was multiplayer. Hopefully it might still be possible as they patched multiplayer into spirit board

Subspace Emissary for me. It was really fun and challenging, I loved the Kirby-style plat-forming and it supported MULTIPLAYER.

I really hope they do patch World of Light in the future so that it supports multiplayer. I mean, how hard can that be?

The thing is though Sakurai correctly said that Subspace was basically a cool experience just one time because of the cutscenes, and what happened was a lot of people just uploaded those cutscenes and people experienced those "epic moments" without ever actually playing the game, without context or more damaging to Brawl, without actually buying the game since the viewer of that cutscene didn't need to buy the video game and pay Nintendo for the most epic part of it.

"Unfortunately, the movie scenes we worked hard to create were uploaded onto the internet. You can only truly wow a player the first time he sees [a cutscene]. I felt if players saw the cutscenes outside of the game, they would no longer serve as rewards for playing the game, so I've decided against having them."

Keep in mind too just how many cutscenes there are in subspace, there's literally hours of movies, that shit takes so much work to render and put together and the end result can all be watched now on youtube, all the viewer misses out on is a 2 minute fight in between the movies.... and ya know, buying a Wii and the game from Nintendo.

Sounds like an excuse to leave an ultimate single-player mode out of Smash Bros Ultimate.
Can you imagine how awesome Subspace Emissary 2 would be with updated design (in a Kirby Superstar style way)? Cooperative play?

I'd have bought Smash Bros Ultimate if it were for another Subspace Emissary mode. My big issue with Smash is that I don't much enjoy it as a competitive multiplayer game... and I know that's the POINT, but I find it gets a bit repetitive (yet, ironically I am a big fan of Tetris 99... but I also generally HATE puzzle games too =D). Subspace Emissary is virtually the only mode of Smash Bros I have put significant time into since the original game on N64. Well... I did put a few hours into fighting Link vs Cloud in the last Smash Bros game, pretty much since it is kind of one of those dream bouts - but that's about all the gameplay I got out of it.... BIG waste of money IMO =D

subspace emissary. it's not even close. the map in WOL was cool, but the matches were only fun for about 5 minutes. if it would've had a bunch more cut scenes i might've dug it. They'd've given me a better incentive to play through the matches. i youtubed the WOL cut scenes. Not worth the time. the way they interwined all the different characters in SE was delightful.

Subspace. It was flawed and incredibly clunky, but seeing the characters interact with eachother made it worth while. WOL has its moments, for instance [spoilers]when it breaks out into a game of Street Fighter 2s arcade mode [/spoilers] but these moments weren't enough.

The reward for playing WOL (aside from unlocking characters which could be done more easily) was just more spirits, which isn't all that exciting to me. I enjoyed the cutscenes in SSE more.

Exactly why a Subspace Emissary 2 mode seems so attractive. It's easy to see the flaws of the first, and how it could be tightened up for another go. Despite some of the issues, I still found the first game came off quite successfully due to its ambition; the good outweighed the bad. The bad is also very fixable.

Link Versus Who? are you possibly thinking of the wrong Final Fantasy character?

But aye it sounds like you might not be the direct target audience of Smash Brothers which is a shame to miss out on some of the cool content that's been packed in there. I look at the games like a museum of Nintendo and now gaming history which also comes bundled with an amazing fighting game and wonderful party title. Like... even just for the music in Smash Ultimate, if you were to consider buying soundtracks to get those 900 or so songs... wouldn't have much change leftover from $60 I think.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Couldnt stomach more than 45 minutes of WoL. It's boring and never makes me feel like I'm accomplishing anything. Didnt even bother watching the cutscenes on youtube since it felt like there was even less of a story than SE.

I adore Subspace. Yes it's flawed, but coop 2d platforming/fighting with huge stages, bosses, cutscenes and all the different team ups. Granted Brawl is probably my favorite Smash title.

If coop gets patched into WoL, I'll give the mode a second chance but if WoL is what can be expected of future Smash titles, I doubt I'll day 1 purchase like I did for Ultimate.

D’oh! I did mean Cloud.

I did love the original game on N64, I might have played it for more than 200 hours. But I think I got all Smashed out. Since the next Cube one I got maybe 20-30 minutes of gameplay before i felt done with it. And yeah, game franchises that are dependent on rehashing (Street Fighter, all sports titles, certain FPS games, etc...), I think it is fair to say that I am not part of that target audience.

But that’s also why I’d love to see some sort of big ambitious addition/change to the franchise, like what Subspace Emissary did; but on a bigger and better scale, new storyline, tighter gameplay... I think something like Kirby Superstar would be nice, delving into multiple different Nintendo metaworlds with different sorts of framework (the more cinematic based Meta Knight stage, and the large open world treasure hunting mines, etc...) which loosely follow a logical path of unlocking so certain characters from earlier stages can interact in the later worlds.

But the same old, “here’s a stage, use these Nintendo characters to fight. Some weapons. Stuff will pop up” thing doesn’t interest me any longer. Mainly because I played that a lot before.

I'm not a fan of either. I prefer the Adventure mode from Melee. I'm not looking for a sprawling single player story mode (with or without story cutscenes) in Smash. Classic, Adventure and some Multiman modes plus a few mini games are enough for me, like Home Run, Break the Targets, Board the Platforms etc. My main focus is on the multiplayer mode so when I'm not in there I just prefer something quick to get a highscore with one of the characters.
