Thank you! Looking forward to seeing the 2020 v 2019 thread! If you're still willing to do it, of course. Good lord, if Switch hasn't peaked yet, it'll be one hell of a year to watch.

Just for fun...

XBO 2019 Sales: 4.7 million
PS4 2019 Sales: 15.4 million
Switch 2019 Sales: 20.75 million

I'll adjust these predictions as we get closer, and see how much I need to change them.

Actual:

PlayStation 4: 14,114,193
Xbox One: 4,874,859
Nintendo Switch: 20,210,138

I was close with XBO, but much too high on PS4 and a bit too high on Switch.

The decline will probably accelerate for the PS4 and XBO, even without considering the release of their successors this year. XBO will struggle to break 50 million lifetime, though it's not impossible, and PS4 isn't a slam dunk for 120 million like some thought it was. Switch probably peaked this year, but holy shit, if it hasn't, it might just have a chance to challenge the PS4's lifetime sales.

And now, the 52nd and Final Weekly Numbers of 2019 have just been posted.

As of now, before adjustments, the final yearly totals of 2019 for all three systems are:

PlayStation 4: 14,114,193
Xbox One: 4,874,859
Nintendo Switch: 20,210,138

The PS4 finishes the year down over 4 million units from last year. The Xbox One ended just under 2 million units down from last year. And the Nintendo Switch was up over 3.7 million units from last year, and cracked the 20 million mark, making the Switch's 2019, unofficially, better than the PS4's peak year in 2017.

The Nintendo Switch, barring adjustments down, becomes the 3rd console to sell through 20 million units in one year, joining the PS2 and the Wii, two systems which did it twice. And the 4th system overall along with the DS, which accomplished the milestone a whopping 5 times.

Didn't PS4 do this as well in 2017?  PS4 sold 20.2M that calendar year.  This site previously had 20.2M but have since adjusted it to 19.8M. However Sony themselves stated 20.2M for 2017. Shouldn't Switch and PS4 be a statistical tie for peak year?

Yes, PS4 did 20.2m in 2017 so it and Switch are currently tied for best year.

So far, without official numbers, yes. But that was ps4's peak year in it's entire life while the switch is extremely likely to have 2020 as it's peak.

Maybe we can get in detail who sold the most in it's peak year, the switch sold 20,210,138 do we have detailed number for the PS4 for 2017 ?

Yes, from sony's cumulative sold through (not shipped) yearly/annual reports. Jut look at the link provided above and if you are so inclined yu can find other such reports and do the math yourself.

I am actually surprised the one for 2020 (covering the period of 2019) hasn't been released yet. Usually goes something like total sales of PS4 has reached bla bla bla and we can just subtract the previous total sales announcement numbers from the new one to know how much was sold in the previous calendar year.

You were on point!! as was VGCs tracking.

My 2019 PS4 prediction was also on point, I said it would do around 14M with a permanent price drop and 16M with one.
