Forums - Gaming Discussion - GOW becomes the most critically awarded exclusive this gen

Agreed 100%. On a personal level I played both while some say BotW is overrated well I say the same for GOW. I had more fun with BotW and would easily rank it the better game.

If you just want to see this list as a ranking of absolute numbers that track the games with most GOTY's this gen, there's no problem in that. But if this list tries to rank the best games or the most "critically awarded" games to figure out which game has been the best this gen without any context then there is a problem here, if that was not the intention, then i apologize and i don't insist anymore, but It's not silly to see things different from other persons. I don't think anyone here is wrong. You can get multiple conclusions depending on the perspective from you see them. Something that not matters to you can matter to others, and everybody should try more understanding the point of others, even if you don't agree.

By the way, what a great decade of games we had. I did not played entirely Zelda BOTW and Dragon Age Inqusition definitively doesn't belong with the rest, but i'm happy i could enjoy all of these games on that list. I don't like where the industry of music, movies and tv series are going but videogames are getting better and better and i'm thankful for that.

With some luck, next year TLOU II will be on that list.

I've not seen this from anyone, rather a clash of ideas, like most threads.

It was a reference to what you said here:

It doesn't matter how much competition a previous game saw, it won the amount of GOTY awards it did because it did. Matter of fact. Ocarina is a 99, God of War is a 94. Matter of fact. Doesn't matter how they got there. They're there.

The "doesn't matter how they got here". It mattered to me, and it seems to others too. I like to comprehend how things happened. I like History, i always liked the explanation about how things happen, i need context. But it's fine if it doesn't matter to you. It's just that there isn't a unique truth about this topic.

In my opinion, we were just discussing semantics, because in the end we were discussing about nothing. Both agree GOW is a great game that deserved each GOTY it received. I wasn't trying to annoy anybody. And clash of ideas it's my jam, so everytime there is one....I end discussing in one for a looooong time about that...XD. But it's just because i like to discuss things with people that see things different. It "expands" my knowledge of things. I was just trying to say that i didn't want to disrespect your opinion nor Kerotan OP.

I'm surprised there aren't more games from 2017. horizon, Mario odyssey, persona 5 and pubg seemed to get a lot of goty attention. I guess they must have cannibalized eachother in the end.

Horizon Zero Dawn was cool. Persona 5 is a higher level in my opinion, because its the best JRPG in the last 7 Years :)

The downplaying on this thread is heavy.

One thing to consider when saying that the game in 2 or 3 decades ago didn't had as many publications for it to receive GOTY or that Zelda holds as the best game ever because of no game passing it in metacritic yet.... Games evolve and get better every passing year, if you don't agree with that then you should just go back and stuck to whatever time you think games were better. Because different than music and witting the technology keeps evolving and products of it improving. Or would anyone say if that same zelda evaluated today would get majority of GOTYs or high Meta even if resolution/texture were updated?

Your whole Thesis breaks apart because your base assumption is wrong. Music and writing are also constantly evolving. It's a huge misconception that improvements in technology leads to better games, improvements in technology open up new ways in gaming but doesn't render old ways useless.

Go and Chess are hundreds of years old and still super popular. Counter Strike still has one of the biggest player base of all multiplayer shooters on the market. Super Metroid, a link to the past and Starcraft: Brood War are still among the best games in their genres.

Yes Go is almost the same as videogames.

But you are free to have your opinion that games aren't getting better. No problem on you keep playing in Atari or NES.

What do you mean? I can play Chess on my PC, so why do I have to make a distinction?

You didn't explain why games are different than cinema, music and literature in regards to technological advancement.

Do you really need me to explain to you how much constraints changed from Atari to PS4 and how much more games could do due to this technological advancements? I don't much a book content improved from Old Greeks to today. So on one hand we have gigantic changes on the content and envelope on a 30-40 years window against almost nill change on 3000 years... yes both are certainly either totally independent of technology or evolved continuously.
