Looking more and more likely that 2019 will be the year Switch outsells the Xbox One in total sales.

MS is kinda stuck to be honest, there's not much they can do now except wait it out til next year then hit the reset button and release an all-new next gen Xbox that doesn't repeat the mistakes of the Bone.

US represents over 50% of XBO sales so globally it did less than 200k in January. That meane PS4 and Switch did more in the US than XBO did globally.

I suppose we shouldn't really be surprised. I mean, I hope this doesn't come off as trolling, but there's not really that much reason to buy an Xbox One at this point to be honest. You can play almost every game it has on PS4 and/or PC. It's just kind of an awkward, pointless third wheel in the current console space.

If Halo, Gears, unbundling Kinect, price cuts, a slim, and the X haven't reversed its fortunes, its really a lost cause.

I mean, no disrespect to those who own one and enjoy it, but its easy to see why its sales are weak.

The two biggest things that ultimately shot the Xbox One in the foot were:

1) The lackluster 1st Party lineup, especially when compared to Sony and Nintendo.

2) Launching at $100 higher than the PS4 for no justifiable reason.

3, and the biggest reason in my eyes) That horrendous, God Awful, reveal.

Microsoft seems to be addressing the first issue very seriously. Now time will tell on the other two.

How certain are we that these leaked numbers are correct?

How come there are no software numbers?

I agree, I have nothing against the Xbox brand but it does seem redundant. Like you said, all of its games can be played elsewhere and they don't have the 1st party offerings of Nintendo/Sony and it doesn't really have any unique hardware features. It's basically just a system for Halo, Gears & Forza fans.

I think at this point it's most important aspect is that they keep Sony in check. 360 stealing away half of PS2's audience caused Sony to not repeat those same early mistakes of the PS3 days and vice versa, PS4 stealing back a significant amount of that audience has caused Microsoft to not make the same mistakes they did with XBO early on.

They also keep going back and forth making their online services better and better. Xbox Live/PS Network, PS Plus/Games with Gold, Remote Play/Play Anywhere, PS Now/Game Pass, etc. They cause each other to step up their game and keep improving.

The person has leaked accurate numbers in the past and because they were delayed.

Very true, competition is good for us gamers and keeps the industry from stagnating or getting too anti-consumer. Only thing is that Xbox aren't doing a very good job of actually competing at the moment, lulz. At least the Switch is keeping things getting too monopolistic.

Ya but look at the total 180 they have done from the DRM fiasco. They went from Kinect required, always online, no used games to Play Anywhere, Game Pass and even allowing cross play with Nintendo.

They also bought like 7 studios in the last 2 years so while this hasnt caused XBO sales to explode, the combination of these things can potentially put them in a better position next-gen, especially if Sony does get cocky again and make PS3/XBO level mistakes at launch.

Again, good point. We'll have to wait for next gen though for them to have another chance at being competitive though, mistakes on the level of Xbone/PS3 aren't something a console can come back from, as much as you patch things up you kinda have to wait til the next cycle for your next chance to really turn things around. Hopefully that's what we'll see with the next gen Xbox. In the meantime at least Switch and PS4 are keeping things interesting.
