You can already tell by the declining popularity of playstation in Japan that the PS5 is going to be something like the Switch.
Unless Sony doesn't care about the Japanese market anymore.

They do and they do not need Japan. PS5 will be a traditional console, because Sony has more world wide impact, however, they will lose traction over Japan overtime, but at the same time it won't matter much because the major publishers are also moving more to western focus as well, so games like Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter will be on PS5.

At most because of the decline of the brand (Playstation) in Japan will attribute to lower smaller focused games moving all resources to incorporate PS4/PS5, Switch/Switch 2 and PC or complete abandon that section and move to mobile.

Precisely. The big games have all done super well on PS4, so there's no reasons for RE, FF, DQ, and MH to skip PS5. There's going to be lot of multiplatform games as Japanese developers consider the West more and more with their games.

And small-medium sized titles catered to Japan will be on PS4/Switch/PS5 which is the natural progression from these titles being PS3/Vita/PS4.

Sony will probably just be content to sell ~10 million consoles in Japan and 100+ million in the West.

Smash has over 500K digital sales in Japan according to Nintendo sell-through number at 31 Dec. So ltd number should be over 3.3m at this point.

Its over 3.38mil now. Digital was 550k+ by week 4

And somehow Famitsu Digital Estimates gave ~309k number for Smash Ultimate despite the hint of digital data by Nintendo in Q3 report.

Nothing really surprising this week. KH3 had another drop, Switch sales still in the 60k range. NSMB hanging on top spot, pretty tame week

NND: 0047-7271-7918 | XBL: Nights illusion | PSN: GameNChick

I'm hoping we get a surprise Feb release in the direct. And I think this year, we'll see a week with 90%+ switch as a total of the hardware. Will PS4 have 20k as a baseline or will it fall further next week? Will 60k be switch's new baseline. Also of note that of the top 20, 12 are switch titles and 8 PS4s. 3ds was selling software before but now even that is out. So this might be it's last year. It also means we might see a week where 15 or more the top 20 titles are all switch. This will be a bad year for the console market as a whole in Japan but an unbelievably huge year for switch. It'll basically be the only thing selling decent since PS4 has run out of almost all options now that kh3 and re remake are out

Just a guy who doesn't want to be bored. Also

I'm impressed the Switch is still over 60k, I expected it to drop to 50k by now. Hopefully these sales keep up.

Its already established that Famistsu digital estimates is completely unreliable. Nintendo just confirms it once in awhile lol. Digital was 500k+ in Dec so definelty off by 40% xD

Would have liked to see Kingdom Hearts hold on a bit better in its third week. Getting to 1 million physical will be hard now, but with digital it should be fine.
With 26% digital it would already be there.
