For once can we have a console that has a good launch? Please? I just want some games worth playing on my new console, it's not that hard.

"The old school" Killer application...I miss it.    The last I remember was Zelda BOTW on Switch and Mario 64 on Nintendo64.   Ok, it is not really needed to make a Console successful in the long run, but I think it would be a big plus, giving people immediately a taste of the capabilities of the new system, and a concrete reason to buy it on Day One.

I'm expecting a killer App from Guerilla Games, the sequel of Horizon, and cross-gen games like TLOU Part II, Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima.  That would be enough to make the ps5 shine from the beginning.   Naughty Dog new IP ? I can see it 2 years from release, and the next God of War the year after.

Right now, it's kinda obvious that the PS5 is coming in 2020. I don't understand why we give so much importance to these analysts ?:(

Ah ok. Yea should be interesting to see. I normally am not excited during next gen announcements for some reason though I just feel like this one will be big. With MS losing so much ground they gained with the 360 and Sony trying to maintain if not increase their user base I just feel like this is going to be a really exciting new gen.

Yep ;)  I'm excited as well, and can't wait for Sony and Microsoft announcements; they must blow me away :D

I loved my 360, and I hope MS will come back very strong, a good and healthy competition is good for everybody.

Yep I love my 360 as well. Went with PS4 this gen which was the perfect choice since they did so many remasters. Will see what I do next year most likely Sony but who knows.

For $500 though? Not as bad as the PS3, but has me cautious.

Reread the thread title.

Sony, give me around 10tf, BC with ps4, and i dont care what Microsoft launch.

I doubt they won't have a cheaper SKU, at that price all MS needs to do is launch cheaper and win the war. Price is super important.

It's not that simple anymore with BC coming into play (if rumors are true). People wont be so quick to abandon Sony if they know they'll also have to leave all their games. It was easy this gen because neither offered BC so no matter what you were leaving your library of games behind.

BC has almost no impact on overall consumers, we (we all come regulary to discuss games in a videogame specialised website, I'd asume we are aren't average gamers at all) care, average consumers don't. They will pay atention to price first, this has been the case since ever.

Well that could still mean $490 to $400, which is still rather steep.

No, it really couldn't ...

You're not going to see a big name console launching at a random price. It honestly sounds more like $450 or $400. And $400 ain't steep, that's what the PS4 launched at.

And either way it still makes your comment wrong.

Sony Launching MORE THAN ONE PS5 | An Ultra Powerful And Cheap PlayStation 5 In 2020 Says Source

ok I have no time right now to watch the video, but should be just speculation. If you ask me, I would buy on Day One the Ultra powerful PS5.

The Nintendo Switch is a good example of it, but the problem I had was even when I got my Switch in July, the other games that came out (Arms and Splatoon 2) didn't interest me despite the fact that I did buy them and gave them a genuine chance. I guess the problem is not just exclusive to Sony's lack of great system sellers with the PS4 (no offense to those who disagree or liked those games), it's also that third parties did not step up to the plate and instead offered massive sellers that were received as mediocre. It has to be an effort from everyone to make the system feel special throughout it's first year.

I agree with you. Although I kind of think at least one of those games (Tsushima, Death Stranding, TLOU2) will get a definitive edition. Makes them a lot of money. There's a couple of other ways they can make the system special.

For one, I think it would be smart to release one of the cross-gen games on the same date as the release of the console, similar to BOTW. But then release the next exclusive (probably Horizon 2) 1-3 months after that. This way they can make the console launch popular with a game people would rather play on next gen consoles anyways (probably Tsushima), and it won't cost a lot of development time either because the game was already being made for PS4. BUT they'll also have a brand new game made specifically for PS5 around the launch window as well.

Also, the obvious: backwards compatibility. It would be a great feature especially because with development times increasing, I think that a lot of the best 8th gen games are coming near the end of the generation.

Also: " Naughty Dog new IP ? I can see it 2 years from release, and the next God of War the year after."

You think God of War 5 will release in 2023? I think that's kinda late. They'll probably use the same engine as GOW 2018 and just modify it. I expect a 2021 release tbh. Or early 2022 maybe.

I didn't mention anything about an APU or CPU.
But even a shitty AMD FX 6300 could probably do it.

Fact is... On the GPU side of the equation, you do not need twice the GPU performance to match a PS4.

I guess many folks forgot this (which was quite a surprise to me back then):

To be fair. I don't even remember them. Haha

It's the 1st time I see this comparison, interesting.   So the GTX 750 Ti can perform better than the PS4 GPU ?  And what about graphics, IQ and effects ?

If you opened up the videos and went directly to the Youtube source... They say the games are using PS4 equivalent settings.

AMD said that with the 7nm process, compared to 14nm, they can have either a 50% reduction in power consumption or 25% increase in performance. The One X is the pinnacle of console performance in 14nm, so 25% more would actually just be enough to reach the performance of a GTX 1070. Add in architectural improvements made with Navi and the console APUs can reach GTX 1080 performance, but that's about it.

And yeah I know that's not the price Sony and Microsoft would pay for them, just pointing out that high-end hardware is both thermally and financially out of reach for consoles.

The 7nm gains are actually bigger than that... However because 7nm is so young, they need to be conservative to keep yields in check.
A 7nm chip released in a couple of years time though should have reductions in power+increases in performance with a possible increase to density... Just like what happened with 14nm.

It's not by the end of 2020. Sony isn't going to choose the GPU at the end of 2020. They've already got the GPU at this point if they are releasing at the end of 2020.

And AMD would have had a working successor to Navi available for some time.

At the moment though, not even my Xbox One X is doing graphics that my old Radeon RX 580 can't do... Let alone twice as good, so my point still stands... And I can compare them side by side!

I think the XB1X is a bad console. For anybody buying one I'd urge them to just spend a couple hundred more for a Ryzen 5 2600X/580 build.  But I have to admit that a PC with a 2600X/580 in it for $500 or less would take some serious corner cutting.

It's not a bad buy per-say. It's just not hitting the heights you would expect from a graphics standpoint.
Partly that is due to the fact we are held back by the base Xbox One and Playstation 4... So developers build games for those systems, then just tack on expensive rendering techniques to push the Xbox One X/Playstation 4 Pro. - But the bulk of horsepower is usually dumped into resolution and framerate anyway.
