Again, havent finished KH III, so I dont know if every single story thread has been adressed. But every review I read so far said it was a satisfiyng ending to the arc.So Im assuming that, since the mobile game is about the Keyblade War, that the major story points end up being adressed in KH III, and those that dont will be resolved in the mobile game itself.

KH III was marketed as the end of the Seeker of Darkness saga.So I dont see a reason for Nomura to go and say "Oh by the way, the next KH will still keep telling the same story.KH III wasnt the end.Im sorry!"

And the next KH dosent need to have a number on its title. One thing people keep confusing is that KH dosent have spin offs. They are all mainline titles.Having said that, yes I do think that he will go straight to KH 4.In order to set up a new saga, I think its easier to convince people of such by making a numbered title.

It;s difficult to have this conversation without you having beat the game, so I can't really comment any further

Ok!Thanks for the consideration.Gonna come back to you again when Im done with it.But just a warning:I like to take my time with the game, so I may take a while to get back to you.

Completely fine, I hope you enjoy :)

KH3 shipping 5m already and MHW shipping 11m bodes well for Japanese developers when they put effort in.

Huge numbers indeed ! (Even if I'd take sell through over anything else) but looking at it's 2nd week in Japan, we're not looking at the most graceful legs ...

Tell me, what PS4 game DOES have legs in Japan lol

Games that aren't RPGs or niche usually.

I was expecting 3.5m at most, this is impressive.
How much does it need to sell to become SE's number one seller ?

I don't think they've ever announced what their bestselling game is, they don't have anything like Capcom's Platinum title list.

Here is the top 5 as best as I can find:

  • Tomb Raider (2013): 11m+ (PC + 360 + PS3 + PS4 + XB1)
  • Final Fantasy 7: 10m+ PS1 and PC only (13m+ including the later PS4, iOS, and Android versions)
  • Final Fantasy 10: 8m+ PS2 only (10m+ if you include the X/X2 Remaster)
  • Final Fantasy 8: 8m+ PS1 and PC only (9m+ if you include the later releases on Steam, PS3, PSP, Vita, and PS4)
  • Final Fantasy 15: 8.4m shipped PC + PS4 + XB1

Becoming #1 will be hard for sure, I think they would need to port it to Switch for that to even have a chance of happening. Top 5 could happen from the PS4 + XB1 versions alone however.

Multiple 1st party games like Spidey, God of War and 3rd party games like COD, Red Dead II were averaging a dropduring the 2nd week of 50 %. Heck, it seems RE2 Remake had a way better drop than KH3.

I'm sorry, I actually meant big games for the Japanese market like FF, MH, DQ etc.

I'll give you some examples:

FFXV launched with 700k in Japan FW and its lifetime sales are a little over 1m as of now, so it had very bad legs not even doubling its FW sales afterwards.

Now let's take a look at how FFXV performed in the west, namely NA.

FFXV launched with around 700k in NA FW and has sold over 1.8m units as of now, meaning it almost tripled its FW sales in NA which shows great legs, quite the contrast to Japan.

Another example:

MHW launched with 1.3m units in Japan and has sold a little over 2m as of now, which means again its legs have not even doubled its FW sales in Japan.

MHW launched with 300k in NA and has sold a little over 1m units there as of now, which means it more than tripled its FW sales in that region thus indicating great legs for the game.

*All the numbers are provided by VGC and are retail only.

Do you get the picture now?

Japan is the exception  in this, not the norm.

Wow, that is a lot. I thought the huge time between 2 and 3 would make the popularity erode. Instead it is stronger than ever.

Except one of your example uses THE crown jewel of the JRPG genre. FF, a franchise that even casual gamers alike might be more tempted to buy. Also XV was released right before the big holiday season, in November. Right after that period, the game dropped hard

As for MHW, it has been one of the biggest surprise of last year, it finally marked it's entry in the big home console space for a franchise that was usually reserved for handheld consoles + tweaks in mechanics that made it more western-friendly to the western market.

KH, on the other hand, I would consider it has a big echo chamber of the gaming/internet space. It has a pletera of people who knows about it, but I have my doubts that the casual market will get on the craze to substain it's sales. I mean, it doesn't help when your franchise is recognized as having one of the most convuloted plot in history. It'll back down a lot of potential customers. Also, having no PC port like the other two doesn't help.
