Grand Theft Auto V is boring.

I think the XBox-platform is more interesting than the Playstation platform, at least with the introduction of Gamepass.

The Tomb Raider reboot was a non-game. What I did as a player has no influence over the outcome. Try it out, try to fall in climbing sessions or something like that.

Turn-based is in most part superior to real-time, because it allows to make deeper more complex decisions. Which is especially true for RPGs fighting systems. In strategy games there are good working real-time-strategy games, but still turn-based strategy allows for much deeper systems.

I think well-made and well-advertised motion-control games in the vein of Wii Sports would still work and would be awesome.

I think online multiplayer is vastly overrated. Couch multiplayer is so much better than online MP.

Mouse+keyboard is vastly superior for controlling first-person shooters than gamepads.

The industry at large has way less fresh or strange ideas in games these days, games are more similar to each other than they were in the past. As I got Sega Megadrive Collection (Sega Genesis Collection in the US) I was surprised at some of the strange and refreshing ideas. For instance: when had we recently a game again like Comix Zone, in which you play through panels in a comic?

3D is not automatically superior to 2D. It depends strongly on gameplay. For instance in Civilization VI I wish they would have used a 2D-view as in the original Civilization, as the 3D-angled view was less simple and easy to grasp as the 2D-view.

Lucas-Arts point-and-click-adventures are vastly superior to Uncharted.

Game exclusivity is a blight. I understand it for platform holders, but 3rd-parties should stay away from exclusivity deals.

The advantage of PC isn't more power, but instead freedom of the ideas of platform holders.

Indies can be superior to AAA-games. It strongly depends on the game in question. Indies have often the more refreshing ideas (look above about the lack of innovation), with the smaller budget they have lower risk in trying out concepts different from the mainstream.

1. Microsoft has innovated MUCH, MUCH more than Sony has.

- Xbox Live was a huge paradigm shift in online gaming. The original PS2 didn't even have ethernet.
- Microsoft made the hard drive standard
- Achievements were a huge innovation
- Xbox Live Arcade was a huge innovation
- And many more things.

Sony, despite being the market leader and making INCREDIBLE consoles, seem to be more of a follower than innovator.

I have to agree with that. As Microsoft came into the market, they thought about how they differentiate from the competition. They focused on former PC-centric games like FPS, focused on online and gave a harddrive. Basically MS moved with Xbox in areas they were comfortable with, as they were closer to a PC. Sony adopted this stuff throughout the lifetime of the PS3 and made more of this with PS4.

I also think 3DS is a take on the PSP while retaining some features of the DS and that Switch is basically a Vita, but thought through to the end.

-Gothic 1 and 2 are way better ARPGs than TES3.

- Counter Strike is still the best online Multiplayer FPS on the market.

-AOE2 is the best RTS ever created and it got even better with the latest expansions.

-the writing in KotoR and Jade Empire is bland and cliche also the good/evil mechanic sucks. DA:O is the best 3D game Bioware ever created.

-GaaS is not the bane of the industry.GaaS is the objectively best finance model for online multiplayer games.

That's all I can think of now.

-PSASBR deserves a sequel, just overhaul the game mechanics and win conditions, get a better roster and they're set.

-Playstation should really make a Playstation All-Stars game, whether it be called Playstation All-Stars 2 or not. Do a reboot/soft-reboot and make a gameplay style that's either wholly unique or more similar to a traditional fighting game, rather than Smash

I agree with this sentiment. While PSASBR was flawed, it is all fixable. The main gameplay ideas though are worth to revisit and especially in an all-stars crossover game.

4. Unless its on GoG, or an Indie the digital version of a game is always a rip-off.

I would reformulate that as: digital is good, DRM is very bad and cancels out the good things about digital and then some. DRM basically means you don't really own the game you paid for. GOG doesn't do DRM on principle and many indies are avoiding DRM, so in their cases I am completely fine with digital distribution.

Legend of Legais is way better than FFVII.

Smash Bros games after Brawl are boring.

Microsoft cares more about their userbase and is more innovative than Sony.

Assassin's Creed isn't a good franchise, but Ubisoft has other awesome games.

What is GaaS?

Agreed on the Bioware thing mind you. Feel so bad for Anthem. :P

Hmm, pie.

- Undertale is a really boring game and not very funny

- Wii U was a great console

- Handhelds >>> home consoles

- More story usually makes the game worse

Some more:

- Skyrim is a bad game. BotW is vastly superior in every way.

- The first generation of Pokémon is the worst one, a lot of them are uninteresting and poorly designed. Also, Red & Blue are easily the worst games in the franchise. G/S/C and R/S/E made huge improvements.

- I'm happy with just my Switch, but if I were to buy a second console, I'd go with XOne rather than PS4. At least the XOne has Ori and Cuphead, while the PS4 doesn't have a single interesting exclusive.

- The main purpose of graphics should be to enhance the gameplay. They should make everything clear. This also means that cartoony graphics are almost always better than realistic ones.

- Controllers are always better to play games with than mouse and keyboard.

- I like the Online Service on the Switch. 40 NES games for like €7 is a great deal.
