Nice Numbers.

14.86 millions ( 31/12/17)

32.27 millions ( 31/12/18)

This means that the Switch misses first place in 2018 by a very small margin by selling 17.41 millions just behind the PS4 and its 18 millions.

So it's the PS4 that finished first on the calendar year for the 5th consecutive time, really amazing!

What's really impressive is the Switch achieving these numbers while competing with the 3DS and Nintendo's mini-console offerings, not to mention the PS4/XBO variants that exist that contribute to their respective sales numbers.

I think ps4 is sold to costumers and switch shipped, but if someone can make it clearer it would be good

(Xbox I have no idea)

"I think ps4 is sold to costumers and switch shipped"

What makes you think this?

Because they graphs are not labeled.

With Sony's numbers today we know that they shipped 17.7M units but sold 18M while Nintendo shipped 17.41M and sellthru is less than that.

I'm following that resetera thread now. Nintendo is saying everything except total selltrough sales for 2018...grrr. But yes, if NA+JP+EU VGC numbers are correct then, that 17'0M sales and 30'2M lifetime sales seem to be correct. APOLOGIES TO VGC FOR DOUBTING YOU, please forgive me......

Color me surprised about that 40% growth in Europe. I genuinely am. I guess Nintendo used its second year to work in rest of Europe. Maybe it was too low in the first year and it was an abnormal number, so that's why the % grow is so much bigger this year.

Edit: LOL, get better zorg!

Sell through numbers has just been posted by ZhugeEX and it says:  "Nintendo Switch sell through to consumers has exceeded 30 million units as of the end of Jan 2019".

So yeah, it looks like it has indeed been a little bit overtracked here.

? "More than 30M" doesn't mean "exactly 30M". And even if that was the case, they cannot know the exact number of sales to consumers on the first day of february.

Only thing bad about any of this info we've gotten is the actual anemic line up for this year

On paper:

Daemon X Machina
Yoshi
Luigi's Mansion 3
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Pokemon Gen 8
Bayonetta 3
Animal Crossing
Town
SMT V

Sounds pretty damn amazing. But then we go to realistic based off what we know now

Daemon X Machina - No release window
Yoshi - End of March
Luigi's Mansion 3 - No release window
Fire Emblem Three Houses - Anywhere from April to June
Pokemon Gen 8 - Late 2019, possibly delayed due to Gamefreak saying they have issues deving for Switch)
Bayonetta 3 - No release window or year
Animal Crossing -No release window
Town - No release window
SMT V -No year,no window, does this still even exist?

With the bad news for MP4 getting the fan base down, lack of games early 2019, complete radio silence on all fronts from Nintendo(no communication,no directs). You have to wonder if Nintendo just doesn't know how to keep momentum anymore when they have it. This seems to be their achilles heel, they never can figure out how to maintain momentum and drop the ball.

Then full picture of games by month is looking like

January was:

NSMB Wii U Port - NSMB Deluxe
Remaster of last gen game - Vesperia
Lackluster Spin off game - Travis Strikes again
Dragon Marked For Death

Feb: (most are digital)

VRally 4
The Book Of UnWritten Tales 2
Away Journey To The Unexpected
Monster Energy Supercross
Dreamworks Dragons
Steins Gates Elite
Aragami
Trials Fusion

March:

Dead Or Alive Xtreme 3
Our World Is Ended
The Princess Guide
Xenon Racer
Yoshi's Crafted World

April:

Darksiders Remastered
FFX-X2
Dragons Dogma
Mortal Kombat 11
Final Fantasy 12
Super Dragon Ball Heroes

May:

Team Sonic Racing

June:

Crash Team Racing

So as we stand right now, Switch's next decent month for games wont be till April unless we get word otherwise.

After investor briefing, its obvious that Nintendo wants to start new FY very strong, so from April, thats why dont any release date for any Nintendo game past Yoshi.

So they want to flounder away the first half of the year

Well, Sony's statement like a week ago was 18 million sold to costumers in 2018 (today we got the shipped which were less than 18 million, like 17.7 for the year). I had the feeling Nintendo numbers were shipped since they always are (we also got news about sold to costumers was something like over 30 by the end of january)

Not sure if it's been mentioned already (can't find it, but there's a lot of posts in here) but according to Nintendo, sales of third party software more than doubled YOY

No, just first quarter (current one), new FY start 1. April.

I saw this while trying to understand units sold vs. shipped:
http://www.asymco.com/2012/05/28/shipped-and-sold-a-brief-introduction/

Does it really matter the significance between the two? Nintendo gets money once a unit of a game or console is shipped, right?

Shipped means "sold in" to stores or retailers, while "sold" refers to "sold through" to consumers. So yeah, Nintendo sold consoles in both cases, just in shipped case they counting consoles in stores and retailers also.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa announced worldwide sell-through sales of the Nintendo Switch has surpassed 30 million units by the end of January. So :

- 14.86 million units of the Nintendo Switch shipped as of december 31, 2017.

- 32.27 million units of the Nintendo Switch shipped as of December 31, 2018.

- More than 30 million units of the Nintendo Switch sold as of January 31, 2019.

So over the calendar year 2018 :

Nintendo delivered 17.41 million distributed consoles and sold less than 17 million consoles to consumers.

In the end no as the final LT shipped amount is seen as sold through which is why the fuss between sold and shipped becomes silly.
