With Yokai Watch 4, Fire Emblem and Pokemon in Japan, I think this will be a much different story you're portraying for Switch this year.

The comparison with Wii was wrong, i admit that, but i was thinking DS. DS back in the the day sold around 8M in a year in JP. Switch won't come close to that at all. Most people here are expecting Switch to sell between 4-4'5M this year. And i was saying that because that was what the industry needed in JP to not reach the low levels of hardware sales that 2019 is projecting.

And Switch is going to sell a lot of software this year, i'm not denying that. But huge software sales doesn't always mean huge hardware sales and viceversa.

DS is another level. Something like that will not happen again soon, not with Switches price anyway. However, it is tracking above PSP though. That ended up at 20m. So I am more confident that it will do well.

Yes, even with KH III and RE2...and this is a very disturbing signal for Japan.

Switch, with KH III and RE2 would have sold much much more units; this is how Japan has sadly turned, let me explain better; These games should push more hardware, and the fact they are not boosting that much is because Japan do not care about home consoles, but only portable from Nintendo. This is not denigrating Nintendo Switch, of course, It's a note for Japan, and many of them are missing out on a fantastic gaming experience, and the situation seems irreversible.  It is not PS4 doing bad in Japan, it's Japan which seems to be so close minded and even capable of ignoring a very good console like XBox, because IT IS a good console.     This is only my thought and perception, so please respect it.

PS4 is in its 6th year, software has less impact on hardware late in the gen as we all know.

It's not even 5 years old yet in Japan :P.

Wow PS4 beat this Switch this week? O_O   (52,6k vs 52,4k)
I wasnt sure it would even with KH3.

Anyways, great sales for KH3. It has curbed the trend of underperforming JRPGs in their FW.

Switch dropped a bit lower this week than expected barely giving PS4 the week. Last year from Week 3 to 4 the Switch actually increased during MHW week, with all the people going to stores, but this year it dropped by 20k. At least it is still up YoY.

Interesting that the PS4 Pro outsold the PS4 this week. I think the PS4 outsold the Pro model almost every week last year by a good margin. Now it is reversed and the Pro model is selling more.

I think almost everyone in Japan that wants a vanilla PS4 already has one. At this point big releases the KH3 and RE2 are really just an excuse for people to upgrade to the Pro model if they want better graphics. It will be interesting to see how the Pro model does once the PS5 gets announced.

That does explain a lot.  (Doesn't take away from what I said though.)  Last week Pro was above the vanilla model as well.

Even with Kingdom Hearts III and Resident Evil 2 Remake this week?

We've seen in the past in Japan where consoles this late in the hardware cycle will get big releases and hardly move hardware I don't see why the PS4 would be any different, especially since its more expensive (the most expensive) than any console or handheld this late in their hardware cycle, so yes even with Kingdom Hearts III and RE2.

Though people have been praising the PS4 for going against the odds late in its lifespan, so no one expected another miracle this year? :P

Didn't the 3DS get a good boost in Japan in late 2016 when Pokemon Sun/Moon came out and broke records?

BOOM! Looks like the Switch won't have a clean sweep in 2019 and win every week. GG PS4. Despite the promo oner Christmas steeling most of the January sales it still comes out on top.

Kh3 in beast mode. 700k digital? 1m LTD? I hope so.

RE2 also comfortably beat re7. GG.

AC7, DQB2, RE2 and KH3 all did well on ps4.

PS4 will be fine in Japan, even though it deserves much more...

On the other hand, PS4 will be on Top many many weeks in the Global from now on to end of November.

That last part isn’t certain just yet

Chill the handheld market is huge there. The switch is the successor to the 3DS and the WII U. It's also a darn good console and the best handheld from nintendo next to the 3DS so far.

Both of the systems are over 7 million sold.... ps4 will end up selling around what ps3 did or a little better.... so that's good.
