Forums - PC Discussion - Metro Exodus Becomes a Timed Exclusive to Epic Store

I ain't "kidding" myself mate. We're talking about the store here, not one game. Where's all those features Steam has, where's the user reviews and mod support at?. Where are the user galleries and built in forums?. Where is my multi gamepad and config support at?. Don't give me that crappy "give it time" excuse, they've been at this for well over 4 years now and they've continued saying "we'll try harder", but they hardly ever do.

"one of the best racing games", yeah, in your opinion, not a fact (unless you want to act Like Colteastwood). It's zero incentive for me to use their storefront, because it doesn't have the games I want, it doesn't have the features I want and it doesn't support modding that I want.

One game isn't proof that it's vastly improving. Your entire argument has been based around one game and not the storefront, not the missing features and consumer practices.

"as a Steam supporter for 14 years", get off that rocker mate. Get off with that fake speech.

Valve make games, games you clearly don't like, so you best be getting used to that.

You are kidding yourself, you clearly state Win10 hasn't improved, and I pointed out it has with a racing game that runs flawlessly. If MS continue to bring games to Win10 that run as good as FH4 than improvement is none debatable. Its not rocket science that the store front is going to improve over time. You seem to think it wont for some odd reason because the programmers behind it don't realize the criticism etc.

Yes I am a 14 year Steam user, how long you been using Steam may I ask?

I have my experience with Steam and its still my go to Store however with the lack of quality control on Steam and the lack of actual games from Valve, I am starting to see it as just another store which offers a mirror library to just about everything else with the exception of trashy green lit games that flood the store front.

Also I am not into mod support or the features you mention above, I just use Steam to play my PC games, and if they don't offer me the content than ill start losing interests. Atleast with Win10 and Epic Store they are adding content that you cannot get anywhere else by either 1st party studios or timed exclusives. I don't want to use Epic Store over Steam but when I hear news like this, I ask myself, why the hell doesn't Gabe get in and start locking in content to compete. But clearly we want different things here.

Its a different time, Steam has upcoming competition, something they haven't had for many years.

Also, no, the WIn 10 store hasn't improved yet, and isn't offering me incentives to play there. until they catch up to Steam and provide me with all the features Steam has, games and all, only then would I consider possibly using it.

Hopefully Valve just do what they do and create games, while offering more features and games that anyone can play anywhere else, you know to give us choices, something which exclusivity fans fail to see.

Forza Horizon 4 on Win10 store plays amazingly well with little to no issues. Its the latest AAA game from MS that runs great, and its not on Steam. So if you want to play one of the best racing games this generation than there is a clear incentive to play it on Win10 or Xbox. Its also proof that the store is improving and also offering games you cannot play anywhere else unless you own a Xbox. Basically everything on Steam is available on everything else aside from some of Valves own games. As a Steam supporter for 14 years I want them to start offering games I cannot play on a console or another Store front and please don't say Artifact.

I don't use Steam for mods and other stuff, I just use Steam to play my PC games. But hey I guess we want different things here.

I have FH3 and FH4 bought via Windows Store. I only did that because it's already a part of Windows 10. But the Windows Store is by far the worst store out there I've been using. And I won't use it for anything else. There are 2 essential feature that it is lacking up to this date. The option of choosing the language for your games and the option of verifying the files. If a  patch breaks your gamefiles than have fun redownloading the entire game. It happened to me on FH3.

If I remember correctly, you couldn't choose where to install the game in the beginning. They've fixed that.

Fortunately for some of use we don't have to worry about the language files and as you mentioned above, its only a matter of time before they start including more options. Steam started off barren and was an annoyance. I hated it at launch, many people had a hard time trying to download games off the store front, but over time Valve improved the service and it became a force to be taken seriously. Epic Store is charging in at full force by locking content away, offering cheap prices and give it a few years and you might have a Store that could take the reins. Its why I am frustrated with Valve lately, because they stopped doing what got some of us on Steam in the first place, and that's the games. Give MS until next generation where there UWP becomes polished and imbedded into the next XB2 and the service becomes more mature. The big thing with Win10 is that all Xbox games are going to be on there, basically having a built in Xbox into your Windows PC. Steam will get some of the lower tier MS titles however I don't see Halo or Gears or any other major project crossing over. Content will be there and as FH4 proves to both of you is that they can be ported across nicely and done right.

You've said it before and no, I'm not "kidding" myself. It still hasn't brought on the features that Steam has had going for itself over the years, it still shows all the mobiles games, that I cannot perma filter that Steam still offers. Why does it even have Candy crush on there anyway, when Steam itself doesn't?.

Just look at this jumbles, disorganized mess:

Compared to this organised one, that's been tailored to my tastes:

It also shows off what's been trending with friends, as well as giving me the list of special offers up front, not to one side, with one game having a special offer like SoT. Steam at least separates their software side in a totally different tick list entirely, but on Win 10 store, all software, be it mobile, games or anything else, is seemingly shoved in your face with varying box sizes, almost like it's treated like a phone store, let alone a Windows 8 store (which is the OS they've chosen to ignore since 10, tiles and all). Nothing from their storefront screams "designed for PC gamers in mind" at all.

When is Gears 2-3 going to be released on PC might I ask, and when will MS go about fixing QB and Gears Remastered on PC?. I don't care if it works on your rig, it doesn't work on mine or other people's PC's, as I had to find out, because you know, Win 10 store doesn't come with built in user reviews, let alone a forum to find out how to sort out the game's issues, but that's totally fine to excuse isn't it?.

Diligaf with your "it's non debatable, I win hands down" bullcrap, that's not how it works at all mate. |YOu deliver non stop and never trip up at all, not when you've got an insanely large company and cheque book to match.

It hasn't improved over time, because gamers like myself have been pointing this out, as well as waiting for 4+ sodding years, while people like you needlessly defend it to the death, while using ad-hominem arguments, as well as mirror ones, attacking the other storefront, to negate any criticism thrown at the one being questioned (calling it right the hell now). Sotes like PC gamer have also pointed this out:

https://www.pcgamer.com/the-windows-store-still-sucks/

Look at this:

Two years ago they promised, and nothing came of it. It's about the store, not the Xbox designed games.

Asking me how long I've used Steam for, from a profile that's kept private, you're asking me this?, or are you asking me this top pull the oh so obvious "no you're the fake one"?.

I've had my own experience with Steam and other clients over the years, with GoG being my go to for what the title says on the tin (shouldn't need explaining as to what the name spells out), with Steam being my place for the majority of games, Battle.net for WoW and Warcraft/Heroes of the Storm (All of them always online based, which very much sucks compared to the games I can play on Steam, both in offline mode for games and client), as well as Origin for Battlefield, but now that client sees far less use due to the dead games being sold on that storefront, as well as EA denying to adhere to Belgium's laws, as well as my Island's, a case which they have recently lost I might add.

The lack of quality control has been changed up over the years, thanks to the advent of the discovery queue and of course, the ability to flat out block games from being seen again and to top it all off, being able to block entire genres from popping up, something which no other storefront allows for. See, I know what your kind scream, you want "curation", but what is shit to you can be good to someone else, so you would rather say "nah, fuck what you think" and instead have their games blocked from being sold onto the storefront, simply because you think your way is superior for everyone else. Curation itself is entirely a subjective one, and one that can never be objective, because one man's trash, is another man's treasure.

Valve are still making games like I've said before, just not ones *you* want, and that's fine, because guess what?, Ubisoft doesn't make games I want and I have to live with that on a daily basis, so why shouldn't you?. Valve are making VR games for those who want VR experiences, something which OR and PSVR are doing, so why can't Valve dabble with VR?. Valve also have their own card game, just like Blizzard does, as well as CDP with Gwent, why can't Valve have one of their own?. Blizzard came late to the game with their Moba, why can't Valve have their own?. MS are clearly late to the XCOM game, why can't MS have their own tactics game?. Please tell me why, and answer me directly without changing the subject, I want actual answer to these questions properly.

it doesn't matter if you don't care for those features, that doesn't make them suddenly non important for everyone else. Me and plenty of others out there value those features, because they are something that both give us more value, more options and more reasons to keep using Steam, you know, to actually make you want to use the client. Modding has been a thing for PC gaming for decades, so it's something PC gamers cherish, and that's something I want to see across all other clients, yet said clients refuse to support something that's a common staple on PC. Hell, people are already modding Resi 2 with different character models already and that's honestly amazing to see.

Valve clearly don't offer you games you want, just like Ubisoft don't offer me both features and games I want, instead they treat me like a pirate, despite me not being one, by shoving layers upon layers of DRM to their client and forcing you to use it by default, even if you purchase from other clients as well. The difference is, one of those companies has some sense of decency and dignity, the other flat out doesn't care and was scared of losing it's head to another French company (fancy that, both french companies had families that were against each other, who would have thought..) a few years back (That's what you get for being publicly traded).

Epic is being anti-consumer as of late, but to you, you don't care about it at all, all you care about is seeing something burn, because it didn't make you a new game. You would rather something that provides options and features be burned to ash, because it didn't craft a game specifically for you. You would rather a company backed by a Chinese one (which shares user data I might add, and steals other people's likeness for their games without permission) just up and take all the games away from everyone else, leaving us with far less options to choose from, and simply be forced into something else.

You don't like PC gaming at all, you just want it to be a mirror of console gaming. Locking games to stores is anti competitive and anti-consumer.

I'd honestly wish your kind out of PC gaming tbh, because you'd rather see what I cherish to burn, and for that I loathe you.

Ouch.. a full year? Console it is than i guess.

Hopefully Valve starts fighting back and offering there customers like myself more incentives to use there service. With Win10 Store and Epic Store only going to improve and offer exclusives hopefully Valve does the same. Black Mesa Xen needs to remain a Steam Exclusive, if Valve put that game on other platforms than they are slapping themselves in the face.

I hope they don't, because the last thing we need is console war exclusivity running rampant across storefronts.

Well you the people screamed at Valve many times and got them to change many things so if Valve get credit for change so do Epic. I will give epic time to implement changes and improvements before judging them.

They jumped quickly into the BR market by changing Fortnite and adding that mode. It launched pretty bare bones but they got to work and a year later not only did it take over that genre and become a global phenom but it also added many changes improving it over it's initial offering. If they can act as quickly with this new pc store they could take over the game.

Yeah mate I have to disagree they're not just using their FN money to buy exclusivity they are doing it to aggressively get a foothold in the market. STEAM isn't an easy nut to crack so I can't blame them for their approach.

Personally I hope they succeed and I hope Twitch shake things up even more.

Valve improved themselves over time without everyone having to scream day in and day out, but with Epic it's an entirely different matter. You weren't there for all the times Valve introduced new features, both requested and non requested, so no, it's not exactly the same.

Epic doesn't get the credit because they were supposed to launch their store with all the same features Steam has, that's how it actually works believe it or not. You get no excuses to not include something the competition has been sporting for years. mjk45's example holds true whether you want to accept it or not.

They didn't jump in, they changed it because Tecent gave them that advice, after having bought out a decent amount of their company shares. Their original game took 6+ years to create, and it didn't even make a dent when it was released day 1. They spent years not bothering to market it as much as well. They've also cancelled their Moba game, as well as their PC mainstay Unreal Tournament. Meanwhile, Valve are still running with their card game, which has lost users, but at least they didn't actively kill two games with one stone. They are still creating games, while Epic rest on their laurels with a casual based game.

Their "save the world" mode is still being worked and yet with the billions of MT money, they still cba hiring the staff needed to finish it asap, but instead they put more focus onto the money making machine, rather than the original game itself, that shows you how little they are about their games. They can't even be arsed to revive their two recently put down titles either, and they have more than enough money to spare reviving them for fans.

Nah, Epic won't "take over the game", they've proven that they want to cater to devs, not consumers. They only cater to Fornite kids and adults with time to burn, but they don't care about fans from anywhere else, not even their moba/UT fans.

Disagree all you want mate, but they are fighting a war they will lose, and lose it rightfully so. personally I hope they fail and learn a harsh lesson.

The pc world ain't black and white anymore mate. A console like war is coming whether you like it or not. All those things you said about EPIC not bothering to make games for their fans. Well Valve have some of the most loved IP's ever and lord Gaben can't be arsed splashing his billions developing them. There's so much potential there but the success of STEAM made them lazy as devs. I hope the coming war does 2 things.

1. Forces STEAM to stop ripping off devs when they don't even package the hardware the vast majority of their users play on.

2. Spend just a fraction of their billions and start ramping up production of their IP's again.

Well this is bad, and it's all on Epic/Amazon/THQ's heads at that.

It was never to begin with, it's easier to see who's not providing what today than it was years ago. There is no console like war coming mate, there is only one company doing this. The others actually have a right to the games they've created like Blizzard for example. Epic is simply buying up timed exclusivity, not perma exclusives, so no, it's not a console like war.

Yeah, Epic, the company you clearly root for, has abandoned two games, two games within recent years mind you, for Fortnite. For PC gamers, dropping a PC IP isn't a good sign of support, it's a bad one, and at least Valve are actually making multiple games for PC, rather than going "I could drop these for a FN clone and make billions while ignoring everyone else".

"beloved IP's", like what?. Tell me how "beloved" they are, that they get mentions and GOTY's again, because this site loves spreading that crap around, as if it means something. HL got one eons ago, but nothing since for any of Valve's IP's. See, to some of you, you like seeing IP's spamming into the ground, like COD, but that doesn't make it A-ok to do such a thing. Yes I'd like to see HL concluded, but it's clear that it isn't happening since all the writers have left. Don't be an arse and demand they make it without the original writers, because then you'd be demanding a butchered game from people that never wrote the first two games in the first place.

Epic have made billions and they've dropped two of their games, while neglecting their original game Fornite, in favor of it's BR mode. So while you call Valve lazy (despite them making multiple games than Epic is even making with their single game from last year), Epic isn't doing much from their own end either in terms of own IP creation.

I hope it forces all the clients to do the same, Ubisoft, EA, GoG, and the consoles, not just Steam.

I hope Steam do create brand new IP's, just not spamming the same old IP's.

You know what's interesting about all of this?. How often do you even use Steam, let alone your PC?.

Mate I use my pc every day. I got a brand-new surface pro for Christmas too so use that on the go as well. But frankly it's my business only how often I use my pc not yours.

Turbulent times are coming, instead of arguing with you on opinion id rather just wait and be proved right or wrong. Developers want that STEAM cut reduced and they'll get their way sooner or later. How soon depends on Valve. The longer they wait the more clout competitors like Epic and Twitch will have.

Don't see why a consumer should care so much. Like seriously? You don't have to pay any extra to get it in the epic store. Just a couple minutes of inconvenience means you'll wait a whole year to play a game you WANT to play??

The extra is that I have to install and register to yet another store I don't want to use. The other Metro games are already on my Steam library so why split them? I mean, it should be releasing soon on Steam and now it's gone for a whole year.

Also, the Epic Store lacks a whole lot of features that are already available on Steam. The list has been already posted in this thread.

But if the cut is so important to them, then charge 70$ on Steam and 60$ on Epic. I personally don't care.

Oh no, installing and and making an account another store?! That's truly terrible.

It may be just because I don't care about this game. But I have a steam account and not an Epic account. Look, I get it, it would it be annoying to do those 5 minutes of work to download and buy a game I wanted? But does that mean I'm gonna through a tantrum (not referring to you, just the internet in general) about it for a year and not play a game I actually want to play? You gotta be crazy.

From my understanding you can't even play games offline with the Epic Game Store (although you might be able to jump through some hoops to do it). In fact Epic Games Store doesn't even have it's own forum system, so players have to go on Steam to ask questions about their version of the game, which is very detrimental if they have problems that need fixing. Steam is also consistently lower priced than most stores.

The arguments for Epic Games Store are basically 1 ) It's not a big deal and 2 ) Epic is being pro-consumer by giving Steam competition, even though they're using anti-consumer practices in the proccess. Both arguments are obviously flawed. But yeah .. there is some exaggeration perhaps, that's just how people interpret things differently though.
