Best Selling Starfox: Star Fox 60 (N64) ----  4m

Best Selling F-Zero: F-Zero (SNES) ---- 2.85m

Best Selling Metroid: Metroid Prime (GC) ---- 2.82m

Best Selling Fire Emblem: Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS) ---- 2.1m

Looking at this numbers it's pretty clear the Metroid series is not the biggest by a wide margin. Hell, considering how much time and efford Metroid games can take to develop, Fire Emblem games are still probably more profitable, so they would have the priority for Nintendo.

So what can they do to make Metroid bigger?

I think they need a good marketing hook to convince non-Metroid fans to try out the game, at least. Whether its a demo, a Metroid Prime 4 focused-direct, or something. It worked with Xenoblade 2 (though it didn't have a demo) as it was consistently present throughout 2017 as a big game for Nintendo Switch, even though the series has been historically niche. It also didn't hurt that the launch was not too far away from the initial reveal so the iron was hot enough to help Xenoblade 2 become the best-selling Xeno game in the franchise. Same with Fire Emblem Awakening and Fates. Part of the reasons why they did well was because Nintendo promoted casual mode (which the Japan-only remake of New Mystery of the Emblem had as well, but...) and provided a demo for Awakening to entice newcomers.

So everything for that today...It is getting back earlier than I thought.

Current PB on Secret of Mana remake : 2h27 (2nd)
Strongest worldwide achievement on TGM : 1st European S13 rank
WR on TGM alternative mode : Fastest ITEM S9 rank
Current PB on Power Ranger (Game Gear) : 10min06 (World Record)

Non-geek activity : ThermalHungary

This is stupid, simply because while I have always loved Metroid, it's not really a system seller. It's more niche than many of Nintendo's B tier franchieses. It has less selling power that pre-awakening fire emblem and on par with pikmen.

I believe it, but where are you getting those numbers from?

They could upgrade Metroid from "moderate niche seller" to "mass seller" with the appropriate marketing for the 6 months before the launch.

Oh no, will they ever recover?????

Of course they will, because this is the stock market and nothing matters.

no. Nvidia is to blame.

I dont think Metroid can effect on stocks, its not like we talking about Pokemon, Mario, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing or Zelda.

Most likely that little fall is because Nvidia slashed their profit for this FY, and because Switch using Nvidia chipset that effected on Nintendo stocks also, in any case,
stocks are almost on same level like they were few days ago.

As people have said , the Metroid series just need more promotion.
But to put a negative light on this, this doesn't look like a great switch year with what we know so far. As many will agree the 1st year was terrific but a lot of titles outside Pokemon and Animal Crossing are rather niche and with how little we have heard even titles like Bayonetta 3 might get delayed

Stock shot right back up.
