Making 5 excellent videogames is a one trick pony.

Making nothing but DK games with the current team in place is a one trick pony, yes. People keep thinking the Retro we have now is the same one of old. It's not.  That's where signals are getting crossed here

Might not even be the same team that made Donkey Kong at this point making this version of Retro a completely unknown entity. Skepticism for a team that has not produced anything ofvalue is regardless the right course of action

Right. This is exactly my same stance. We do not know what the current Retro is truly capable of as they've been confirmed to just sidescrollers and platformers. I want to see what they're truly capable of before I sing them ultimate praises. We'll know in roughly 4 years when Prime 4 is ready to show off what they're truly capable of imo. Good(hopefully) or bad

So they are both a one trick pony for multiple Metroid games and a one trick pony for multiple DK games, because they did nothing but Metroid before Returns.

Again you're trying to use the old team in your argument currently about the new team.  Doesn't quite work. This current team in place that people are excite for hasn't shown us they're capable of making a Metroid style of game,as of yet, as they've only shown us they're capable of platformers and sidescrollers. Then have been MIA for the last sum odd 5 years with nothing to show us what they're truly capable of. This is why I personally do not see the hype in the announcement of them being involved in the game when they have not shown us that they're capable of pulling it off(as of yet). Who knows, maybe in 4-5 years when its finally revealed I'll be proven wrong and that would be awesome. But until that time comes, I just cant agree to the sentiment that this is a overall positive thing at this point in time.

Do you realize that most studios which last more than 10 years probably always go through multiple periods where they have more new staff than old, and nobody tends to care because things continue to run smoothly? Do you also realize that this is a slippery slope since depending on the age of the studio and how often they hire "new staff" could refer to people who were hired years ago, or who joined the company just a year after creation? See how silly that sounds?

Precaution is always the preferable act but this is such a slippery slope. It's worth a mention because it's a factor at play, but it isn't basis for an entire argument about whether Retro is capable or not. The only reason we're even calling Retro's new studio a "one-trick pony" is because they dared to take up a different franchise then Metriod, and after the 2nd entry of said franchise their rate of production went to shit. Essentially we have almost no data on how much of a one trick pony they are, because there isn't even really a sample size, there's only two games. Now ... if they made Metroid Prime 4 after DKC Returns, and it was shit, then that would be a much better case.

Being neutral to Retro is the best way to go, but when you're using that position to just say negative things about their prospects it doesn't look "neutral". I quite honestly don't even think there's enough hype behind Retro taking over MP4 for there to be as much counter-arguments as there are currently against them, it's not like this announcement shook people because Retro was making it, most people don't even seem to care beyond the game being delayed.

Nothing I said sounds silly though. All perfectly reasonable and logical. Oh ya I'll admit I'm not neutral here, I just have no confidence in the current team to pull of what people think they're going to. I hope I'm proven wrong, but we wont know that for many years now.  Most people are only ''ok'' with the delay due to PR move by Nintendo using Retro studios name, which was smart since thats brand recognition. Heck even when i first heard it was Retro i was like oh ok, that's cool, but then started thinking harder about it and started questioning WHY it was a move worth praising when we have nothing to base that hype off of. Retro is a dormant studio, I just want to see what they're capable of so I can be proven wrong on their capabilities, but we are going to have a long time before that happens.

Wow ... perfect counter argument, that one

It's pretty silly to keep using the same argument as if the fate of the studio is already determined. It is something to consider but when you're pushing it as the be all end all ... yes it's ver silly.

That wasn't why most people were ok with it. They were ok with it because the manner which Nintendo delivered the message was respectful, and the message sent was that Metroid was a valuable property that was worth more than a bargain bin level of quality, which is something Nintendo hasn't communicated well in the past.

It is the perfect counter argument. You claim what I said sounds silly, I simply stated I disagreed and think everything I said is reasonable and logical. That's just how it is. Just like in your own point of view, everything you type you view as reasonable and logical. It makes sense.

I disagree why most were ok with it. All ive seen is people creaming over the fact that its Retro taking over. Not because the message was respectful.

So the moment you disagree with someone you can write long drawn out comments about how they're wrong, but when someone replies to you on why your reply is nonsensical you can just pull out "Sure, but that was logical for you and this is logical for me, there's nothing to argue for here".

If that's how you want to take that, then thats your prerogative. I've given reasons for every argument I have. Take that for what you will

It's not my prerogative, that's literally what you did. You argued with someone a lot for holding a belief, and then when yours is challenged you just say "well, your perspective makes sense for you and blah blah blah". If that was the case, you should have never started an argument with the first person in the first place, or anyone on this site for that matter.

Everything Amy says makes sense to me at least. I want to add that it would have been much better if Nintendo and Retro had announced whatever they have been working on and that it is being released soon and  then make the announcement that Retro has taken over Metroid Prime 4, but since they didn't do that i can only conclude that there is nothing to show
