The Capra Demon.... So hard! I've been using the stairs to separate it from the dogs and kill them but he's so tough.....

Using the power up to add flame to my sword at the same time to no avail....

Must have died 20 times so far......

Go completely upstairs and then right. Once you get rid of dogs it becomes game of wating for him to come under you, jump and slash him mid air, and then quickly up the stairs again. Rinse and repeat.

Appreciate the advice!!!

It's the camera that kills you quite often in DS1, and Carpa Demon fight is example of that.

Capra Demon could be killed by throwing bombs over wall. Completely safe, you are standing outside boss room.

And this is a good example of how the game is overrated. Basically using the broken AI to get passed an annoying rush enemy. I had a lot of trouble with the Capra Demon as well and it quickly became tedious to fight back to him, walk through the mist, get rushed and die in 2 seconds, sometimes the fog had not even fully cleared yet. Luckily the game was good enough to oversee these kind of problems and you can use the broken pathing for a lot of encounters when you get 'stuck'.

Nonsense, this is a perfect example wof why the game is amazing. How many people have played this game several times and never realized you could kill him this way? There are many ways to kill bosses if you look into it. For example some bosses are extremely weak to bleed so if you grab a quick bleed weapon it makes the fights super easy. This sort of stuff adds a sense of wonder and innovation to the game that makes you wonder what else could be possible.

A lot of these "gimmicks" are also purposefully designed to the game, you think that random hole in the wall of the Taurus Demon boss fight wasnt put there on purpose to impede or help the players?

Disagree with all points and I actually beat the game, rendering your opinion null and void. But hey, enjoy your Nintendo big guy.

I didn't like it much at first back in days - but that's because 8 years before Demon's Souls released there was this little known PC game called Severance: Blade of Darkness that mostly did what Souls did much later, though without respawn mechanism, but with much better combat - so at first Souls felt to me fairly clunky and not so innovative as others claimed...but I gave it a shot, cause in this age of AAA dreck, every AA game even resembling something that is different is more than welcome in my book.

So...to this day, after playing and finishing all 4 Souls, I still feel that combat is quite average, though more than satisfactory, but what makes it stand out is the atmosphere and level design, which are superb - and this is what made Souls only franchise in last 15+ years to get on my Top 10 IPs with 3 or more entries.

I'm the odd one, I like DS2 the most, largely due to setting that resembles medieval fantasy more than other Souls games, plus I really liked whole progressive hollowing/human effigy mechanism.

Great post!  I agree with everything you said.  Also this makes me want to check out Severance: Blade of Darkness.

Dammit!
I hope they get it soon.  Now I really want to check it out.

Severance was on GOG once upon a time, but it got removed - not sure about the reasoning behind it, but I remenber it behaved weirdly with modern GPUs on some levels - IIRC, I had to run it through in-built Voodoo wrapper or something like that. There are levels later in the game with fog, and depending on chosen renderer it was either thick soup or no fog...still, didn't prevent me to thoroughly enjoy it.

Not sure who owns IP these days, it was some Spanish guys that made it, but I wish there's at least remaster of sorts, if not full blown remake.

I personally think that Dark Soul is a great game. I would not call it a mastepiece, but it´s a very very good game.

I believe it´s a bit inaccurate to say it´s a bad game. It would be more accurate to say that the game simply does not fit your tastes.

I feel the same about Grand Theft Auto 5. I just can´t appreciate that game, but I do admit that it´s truly an excellent game. It simply does not fit my gaming tastes.

Oh i agree very overrated .. Demon Souls and Bloodborne all the way
