Forums - Sales Discussion - ZhugeEX "Xbox One sales around 41m"

The XB1 did quite well to sell over 40m in a losing generation. Not as much as 360 obviously, but with the strength of the PS4 compared to the PS3, XB1 still did quite well.

ZhugeEX numbers and VGC ones are within the margin of error of each other, unless verified infos arrive confirming ZhugeEX more than VGC, the latter doesn't need to adjust more than the former.

Adjustments are being made. Mainly lowering sales in Europe outside the big 3 and rest of world.

Great job. We're you going to make these adjustments anyway or just now after finding out? Regardless keep up the good work and I look forward to the year ahead on Vgchartz.

Xbox one had multiple revisions to sell just 40 million. (Xbox one S, X, multiple storage configs & SKUs, limited editions etc)

The Wii U got only one so far. (The switch).

So Wii U won.

There is a difference between a revision (Xbox One S) and a brand new device (Switch). One of them is also still be manufactured for sale. The Wii U is the clear loser under that criteria.

It gotta admit though that was funny. Never seen a post Wii U failure post spin it into a positive and this managed it. He got a chuckle out of me.

I kind of think Microsoft is treating the XB1 very much like how Nintendo treated the Wii U. When it was getting near the end, it got little support because they were gearing up for the Switch. Well XB1 isn't getting many exclusives anymore, but we know they just bought several new studios. Put those things together and it seems like Microsoft is planning to have a very strong launch/first year for its next console.

Also, I don't understand why so many people say the release is going to be in 2020. Does this come from an insider, or is this just one of those "facts" on the internet where you repeat a lie enough times until it becomes the truth?

Good point regarding release. I think we all just assume MS won't want Sony getting a head start and will either release with the ps4 or jump the gun.

I often see VGChartz sales numbers used in other articles on other sites. Maybe the XB1 numbers should have been purposely under tracked, even enough so that it would be embarrassing to MS to have those numbers used and spread across the net, hopefully forcing them to offer updated more reliable data? If sites like this are over tracking XB1 sales, then MS has pretty much zero reason to publicly say otherwise. The downside of course would be that it wouldn't exactly look good on VGChartz to have numbers 'knowingly' that far off, just in the hopes of MS coughing up the legit count.

I had this thought before lol. Have their numbers at 33m or something and when news sites start reporting it they might come out and say "actually we are at 40m vgchartz is wrong". But yeah the shitstorm for vgchartz wouldn't be worth it.

As we all know, the WiiU is just an add on to the Wii. Wii to sell 200 million and become greatest selling console ever?

Post of the year so far. Although won't some people then argue the ps1, ps2, ps3, ps4 and ps5 are all just revisions of the same platform with the Vita and PSP the handheld forms?!

ZhugeEX has access to official numbers. He doesn't come up with estimates himself.

You guys are easy to troll.

I was implying Microsoft did everything in their power to save the Xbox one with holidays price cuts and multiple revisions.

Nintendo never did such thing for the Wii U. As soon as they saw sales faltered. They started on the next console immediately.

Wii U would have sold better than 13 million if BOTW stayed exclusive and Wii US, Wii UX came out.

I dont know what is the hassle.... but that is a pretty good number. Over 50% (or will be) of the 360. Better than what the Wii U or PsVita have done especially compared to its previous one.
Hopefully MS knows the problems they faced and will fix it next gen.

Just imagine headlines right about now pointing out that Switch is already on the verge of overtaking XB1. Hard to believe that wouldn't put a fire under MS. The optics would be so bad, and with everything MS has been doing to turn XB1 around, you'd really wonder if they wouldn't at least bend a little and tweet, we're closer to 40M than 30M btw. That wouldn't exactly be much better than what's available now though, and ya, VGC would probably feel more heat than PS did with cross play so.

Only after this figure from ZhugeEX was released.

I gotta say I admire how proactive you are. Keep it up. Ps. They also posted Spain 2018 sales. I made a thread with the details.

Actually, I think either Sony or Microsoft (or both) will release in 2019.  That would be "on time", especially for Sony.  Also if one of them releases in 2019 and the other waits, then the first one to release steals the spotlight from the other.  The only good reason to release in 2020 is to get the benefit from selling out early in the year like Switch did with its launch.  But the marketing buzz will be a lot stronger for someone releasing around holiday season 2019.  Both of these times are good.  Anything after this is really waiting too long.

The big 3 have "waited too long" before. PS3/360 weren't replaced until 7/8 years after they launched.

The PS3 waited 7 years, because it was such an ambitious console with ambitious specs.  It launched with a $500/$600 price tag.  It actually got a $400 model in 2007 which would be 6 years before the PS4 launch.  Also financial losses were a big factor why Sony waited to release the PS4.  It needed to make sure that it wouldn't sell at too much of a loss even at launch.

The PS4 was not considered to have ambitious specs when it launched.  Also Sony is not hurting financially like they were during the PS3 years.  There is no business reason for Sony to wait.  It is smarter business for them to release in 2019.

As for Microsoft, they are a wildcard.  They are still figuring out the console business in a lot of ways.  Also a lot of their strategy is around figuring out how to "punk" Sony in some way.  If they can upstage Sony then they will do it.  With the XBox360 they upstaged Sony by releasing a year early.  But they might come up with some new tactic for their next console.  We'll just have to wait and see.
