Forums - Sales Discussion - ZhugeEX "Xbox One sales around 41m"

Gaming analyst ZhugeEX or Daniel Ahmed has released information regarding the very secretive total for the Xbox One. He said they are up YOY in the US but never mentioned it being up YOY WW. He also mentioned digital sales are high but that the total install base is only around 41m. That's about 2m lower then we have it here on Vgchartz so we might want to make some adjustments.

XB is probably overtracked in the same territories as always has VGC overtracked historically, mostly Europe and Others. This overtracking remind me of the good ol' days of last gen when it was normal a console being under or overtracked big time by the end of the year. By comparison VGC has been way more accurate this gen. Because of how Microsoft treated XBO sales, i must say VGC had a difficult task to track correctly the console...

This numbers makes really difficult now to reach 50M before next gen console arrives. Next gen could go back to XB in USA, and maybe UK, but this definitively shows that XB is never going to be popular everywhere else....

Eh, I imagine 50m being obtained by launch time, especially considering the pegged timeframe points to 2020.

You think so?. XBO seems to have sold around 6'5M in 2018. If XBO sells, let's say, 5M in 2019, it will need 4M before next XBOX launch in 2020 (all of this if next XBO launch in 2020 and not in 2019).

I really think it won't reach 50M before that.

9 million in nearly two years? I see it happening.

Considering how bad Xbox did the last 2 years, 9M at the end of its life seems like a lot for me.

MS only have themselves to blame, anyone liking their streaming ambition?

Not impossible. What this really means is Xbox needs more than just BC and Game Pass to really make a point next time around. They need compelling, exclusive, software to generate early hype while maintaining an affordable price, key marketing, and a system that doesn't get trounced in the spec department (though this is highly unlikely anyway).

With the right combination, hitting 60-80m next gen would probably be achievable.

I can see the next Xbox reaching 60M but I think the times of Xbox reaching 80M are past gone.

What do you expect XBO doing in 2019 and in 2020 before next gen Xbox launch?

So XboxOne only sold around 8 million per year from launch to now? That's not very good at all especially with all the effort they put in with a redesigned model with 6tflops.

I had Xbone pegged for 60-65m lifetime but that's starting too look a little over-optimistic.

One thing's for sure, they need to drop the "Xbox One" branding and pick a new name for their next system, the words "Xbox One" have come to be associated with inferiority. Even after all these years they've been unable to outrun the shadow of 2013's monumental blunders.

Roughly 4-5 million each year (perhaps a bit less next).

If XBO sells 5M in 2019 I just see impossible to sell 4M in 2020 if next gen comes around November.

But anyway around 50M is still a good number for a console, and if it is profitable, Microsoft is happy.

I agree and I was working the figures out in my head earlier. Unless they wait until 2021 to launch.

This means that Switch will most likely pass the XB1 in LTD sales before 2019 is over. I'd say for sure, but Nintendo's release schedule remains a mystery and therefore the first 6-9 months of the year could be quite meh.

Indeed and that would be great for Switch but really bad for Xbox. They'll have a tough time next gen vs Switch and the PS5.

I can't see it. It will be down this year on already low sales WW and next year numbers will only include pre season. That's assuming the next Xbox comes out before the holidays.
