Forums - Sony Discussion - PS Now: The Netflix Of Gaming Coming To More Regions Of Europe

It's fascination. MS just talk about wanting to build a Netflix for gaming and that's 'GREAT', meanwhile Sony have been actually building a Netfflix for gaming but that's not 'GREAT' because it's not in as many countries a Netflix. So, I guess it's better to talk the talk rather than walk the walk.

The PS5 Exists.

Well, Phil Spencer isn't popular for nothing... All PR, no results, but people love him because he looks nice and talks big. You want to be "great" on the internet? Just say that you're great on the news, people will believe it.

Whoa...... I though Microsoft's Game Pass was the Netflix of gaming.

Is the service better now? Last time I read about it you needed a really fast internet connection (30Mbit+ for anything else than indies) to avoid a very strong visual drop and still had a pretty noticeable lag, and if the connection gets a hiccup then everything since your last save was lost. Is that still true or did the service improved a lot in those regards?

Yh i Know its really confusing.

  • PSnow started in 2014 GamePass started in 2017
  • PSNow can be used on PCs, Playstations and Tvs. Game pass can be used on PCs and Xboxes
  • They both have a library of ever rowing titles.
  • They both require a subscription.
But somehow..... gamepass is the netflix of gaming (while currently in fewer regions than PSnow, fewer device support) all because Phil says so. And the media at large just somehow forgot to notice they are 3 years late to the party.

Eh, Netflix is awesome. When I tried PSNow it was terrible.

The good thing is Sony has their “Netflix of gaming” and MS has their “Netflix of gaming” and that just means we as consumers will get better services as they compete. Sony already finally added the ability to download some PSNow games after GamePass launched.

Don't forget the distinction of being able to stream games on PS Now should you want to. Which is the most Netflix-ee thing of all!

600 titles... Damn. I'd give this a go if I had a ps4 and it was available in Australia.

You don't need a PS4 to use PSnow. Right now you can use it on your laptop or desktop.

So available in 4 regions? Okay.. but Netflix?

OK.... I am just gonna say it, you are biased.

The goal has always been global, but it comes down to securing servers in these different regions, especially ones that are capable of game streaming so the rollout is going to take some time.

Ideally by PS5's launch they will have most of their regions covered, if not all, but they will probably still be in expanding stages post PS5 launch.

I think the difference here is that MS screams about every initiative its taking from the rooftops and on the other hand sony just quietly does stuff and fleshes them out. Its amazing how forward thinking sony has been this gen' but somehow the media at large can't seem to see the connections because sony isn't spelling it all out for them.

Just this gen sony went from being that platform with the piss poor online service to being the platform that pushed

  • Game share (videos, photos and controls: the last one being something they are still the only ones doing where you can let someone else play games on your console over the internet)
  • Remote play (being able to access your console from other devices from anywhere in the world; been there since day one on the PS4)
  • PSnow  (which is quite literally what this netflix of gaming everyone seems t be chasing is and at least the most fleshed out service like that in existence right now)
  • PSvue (which is among the best live Tv streaming services n the market right now and with plans to expand across regions)
Its shocking to me how they arent given credit fr these initiatives. Or how its not obvious t many that sony has long since been laying the foundations for transitioning away from a stand alone box and moving to one that will have a Playstation in every home, be it via a box or via one of its services.

The media has a price. If Sony want every news site screaming from the rooftops about how they are the premier Netflix of gaming service then they need to open their wallet and pay them to spread the truth something tells me Sony will happily go about their business quietly until next gen is announced. Then they'll make waves. It would be cool if this service had 1000+ games and was available in 40+ markets come ps5 launch. Available on your phone, pc and ps4/ps5.

Yeah we're still waiting to see any sort of tangible results. If the next xbox lunches and sales don't pick up over this gen he's really improved nothing in terms of sales.

Good to see that they are expanding.
I tried the trial sometime last year and it's not a bad service. Personally I prefer gamepass since it's cheaper, all the games can be downloaded, and quiet a few new games come to gamepass day 1.
