Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan Sales week 3, January 14 -20 , 2019

I just realized Switch is already far ahead of last January (~270k for 2018 vs ~350k for 2019 so far) with 1 week left. By the end of the month it will look like ~400k+ vs 270k. That's a lot, more than a 40% increase. If the same follows worldwide...

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Nice hold for the Switch.. Can we say that 70k may be the new baseline?

Too early for that. Will you make this awesome graphs again this year?

I'm sure those people who wanted to get a PS4 for games like Kingdom Hearts 3 and Resident Evil 2 bought a PS4 when it had its five week deal last month.

This is the first time i really see hw be taking sales from one year out of another. Its definitely notable

There's that but I also feel like KH3 and RE2 are just catering to fans that already bought a PS4 for titles like FFXV, DQXI and RE7.

Switch dominating the software and hardware chart!
Splatoon 2 is less than 100k to reach 3mil retail! Seems like it wont get smashed anytime soon!

Its noticeable and the Monster Hunter world week isn't here but for those five weeks and the first week of the year, the PS4 was definitely above its weight. Close to year five in Japan, 29990 yen is just too much for the console.

Especially since that is only for the 500 GB model which has been phased out almost entirely in the west. If you want the 1 TB model then it's around 34,000 yen.

@zorg1000 I will pass. Formatting HTML tables wasn't particularly enjoyable and the PS4 could easily fall below one million without a price cut. And with Pokemon Gen 8 and potentially Animal Crossing this year Nintendo will have another killer lineup. 4 million would be lowballing it I think, though too much of the software releases are unknown to really get a decent estimate.

That is not sounding too good for the PS4.

Let's see then if it stabilizes. Indeed, had been busy the past few weeks, but worry not. The graphs will be back :)

Smash gradually inching up to Splatoon 2 numbers. It will be interesting to see if it sells near 50k next week or if it drops off significantly.
PS4 sales have really dropped, but the Pro version is still going strong. Last year I think Pro was about 20-25% of total PS 4 sales on an average week. This week it is 42%.
Looks like Mario Odyssey dropped out of the top 20. Maybe because of NSMBUD? Looks like there is a conservation of Mario principle going on.

I think it'll take a couple of months to dethrone it, but as it is. it's great to the both of them neck to neck
