Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch TFLOPS : 1,024 ? 0,79 ? 0,393 ?

Teraflops doesnt always lead to more power on screen. It's nothing more than a guideline to what can actually be achieved.

Neither Uncharted 3 or TLoU is as technically impressive as Mario Odyssey tho you may prefer the art style of one over the other. Id bet money that the Switch could render both of those titles as they are and make improvements as well while the PS3 most certainly could not render Mario odyssey, Breath of The Wild, Mario Kart Deluxe, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 or even Smash in their current forms without concessions.

Games are fun.

0.393 when measuring FP32
0.79 when measuring FP16.
If you are comparing to 1.3 TF of Xbox One, use FP32.

But still, every game must work on portable mode, so the number we have to use for switch is around 0.15

0.15 TF ?  That's why the best looking Game on PS3 or XBox 360 still look better than anything on Switch, right ?  Games like The Last of Us or Uncharted3 look more impressive than the best looking game on Switch from what I remember; I should see them side by side to be sure though.

Compare two late ps3 games with realistic art style to early games on Switch with mostly anime/cartoon art style, are you OK?

It should be remembered that the Switch is not even two years old yet so we almost certainly have not yet seen the best it can do graphically. The real showpieces of a system tend to arrive later in its lifespan.

Thats usally more true for hard to understand tools & complex cpu/gpu setups.
Tegra isnt new in that sense (the gpu part, is something programmers understand well by now), and arm isnt a issue either.
I dont think you ll see massive differnces between now, and a few years down the roads, not from Nintendo themselves.

Maybe 3rd party get better at makeing games for it? but I dont think theres that much performance left on the table. Look at panic button, those guys go all out, to squeeze every little drop of performance out of the switch. I doubt theres much more they can do, even a few years down the road, compaired to now. Also devs have been saying the tools for the switch are easy to use.... again going against the sentiment that theres performance left on the table, because devs dont know how to use it.

The same was true with the PS4 & XB1, because they where both x86, and had unified memory pools, and easy to program gpu's,..... things arnt going to get much better than they are now, and how it is now, isnt much differnt from at the start of the gen.

Depend, about graphic, Xenoblade 2 Torna definitely look way better than the main game

Why ? I just checked the last videos and pics from Uncharted3 and The Last of Us, and I believe they are more impressive than anything on Switch.  What part of it do you consider dumb? May you elaborate? If you don't agree, simply state it and why, keeping some education.

I could argue Mario Kart 8 is more impressive than anything on PS3. I mean 1080p/60 fps with very polished visuals.

You could argue that, but you will look very foolish as Mario Kart 8 on the Switch runs 720p maximum docked

See digital foundry for details

At the moment the PS3 does have the better looking games, though thats due in large part to the switch only being out just over 2 years, at the end of its life will the Switch have anything that can match last of us? debatable we will have to see in a few years time.

Tthe switchs GPU is better but the CPU is worse, it also has on 4GB memory vs 8GB. Will a full GTA5 come out on switch to match PS3, debatable without compromises due to its weaker CPU & less memory

Interesting. But I wonder, how foolish would you look if the very source that you cite contradicts you right in the description of their analysis video?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDTNNjWbYoo

Switch brings the greatest version of the Mario Kart series to date, either as portable or home console. Comparisons with the Wii U are glowing: a boost from 720p to 1080p, the removal of the '59fps glitch', an extra battle mode and much more make this a definitive release.

No, its 1080p docked. I checked DF video to verify.

Its possible no developers are going to create a game with the attention to environment detail of Naughty Dog games for Switch. But that doesn't mean Switch is incapable.

You seem to be very confused in your post. Are you suggesting the PS3 has 8GB of memory? In practice the Switch's CPU seems more capable given it does a better job targeting 30 fps or even 60 fps. I think it can handle GTAV with little compromise if any. The Switch can handle LA Noire quite well and that's likely a rushed port.

Anyway, I really think the general consensus is the Switch's best looking games are much more polished than the best looking games on PS3. The multiplat games tend to look much better on Switch over PS3. However, people feel PS3 exclusives look better because they go for a more realistic art style even its at a lower resolution than Switch tends to aim for.

You could've go with Bayonetya 2 or Super Mario Odyssey but instead you decided to go with the most polished game of the console which actually runs at 1080p@60fps

Edit: double post

Others have beaten me to it, but:

(a) MK8 on Switch is 1080p docked, not 720p. https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-mario-kart-8-deluxe-tech-analysis

(b) PS3 has 512MB of RAM, not 8GB. And some of that is reserved for the OS, so in total PS3 has less than 1/6th as much RAM available for running games as the Switch.
