Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch TFLOPS : 1,024 ? 0,79 ? 0,393 ?

How many TFLOPS the Switch has at the end ? It seems that there has been a lot of speculation with this first value of 1 TFLOPS, letting many of us imagining that a game well optimised on Switch could almost match with the XBOX1 having only 1,3x more...

My friend who is an eternal pessimist about the Switch thinks that there is not that much compared to the WiiU.

On Wikipedia, we have the value of 0,393 docked.

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Switch

This russian dude proposes a calculation at 3min40 which gives the number of 0,79

Does it really matter?
Do TFLOPS determine if a game is good or not?

Anyway, if memory serves me right it was determined that docked is 0,7-0,8 TFLOPS and handheld is 0,3-0,4 TFLOPS

Why do we care what some BS spewing russian claims?

He is wrong, and doesnt show any benchmark, or anything, just a table he made himself, as a picture in a youtube video.
Common, why believe such a person over experts at neogaf? resetera?

People have cut them open and X-rayed them to find out what was inside them.
They know how fast they run when docked too..... there is not mystery at all left.

There are just people that dont want to acknowledge facts at this point.

Spoiler Alert: it won't

That 0.79 TFlops is most certainly in FP16 aka half precision, while the 0.393 is in FP32 aka Full or single precision. XBO and PS4 GPU are from a time half precision was seldom used and thus are unable to do 2 half precision calculation in place of one in full precision.

In other words, Switch has about one quarter of XBO performance in FP32, but that advantage is cut to just half when half precision is in use. An upgrade to an X2 in 10 or 7nm should be able to match the XBO in half precision without taxing the battery too much, but not yet in FP32.

My Laptop is faster than every one of those machines. My laptop! Not even my desktop. It's friggin' time for new consoles!

Not that I would care about power in a Nintendo console though. =P

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

THE MATH:

256 cuda cores x 768mhz x 2 = 393,216 = 393 Gflops

I think formula was like that.
There is nothing more to it.

Thats its Fp32 flop rate, when running docked at 768 mhz.

People "KNOW" with 100% certainty how many cores are inside the chip, and how fast they run.
You cannot just ignore facts.

People need to stop all this bullcrap about how the switch is more powerfull than that, because its all just lies.

Origianl Poster:   "Switch TFLOPS : 1,024 ? 0,79 ? 0,393 ?"

The correct answear is 0.393 Tflops (393 Gflops)

Stop suggesting its not, please.

0.393 when measuring FP32
0.79 when measuring FP16.
If you are comparing to 1.3 TF of Xbox One, use FP32.

But still, every game must work on portable mode, so the number we have to use for switch is around 0.15

0.15 TF ?  That's why the best looking Game on PS3 or XBox 360 still look better than anything on Switch, right ?  Games like The Last of Us or Uncharted3 look more impressive than the best looking game on Switch from what I remember; I should see them side by side to be sure though.

”Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”

Harriet Tubman.

Docked: 393GFLOPS
Undocked: 157GFLOPS (@307.2MHz) or 196.6GFLOPS (@384MHz)

This is FP32, the usual metric.

As said previously, all games need to run in portable mode, so your base performance is set at under 200GFLOPs.
