Forums - Nintendo Discussion - When do you think we'll start seeing sequels to Switch games?

Personally, for some games, I think we'll start seeing some sequels to them around next year.

Mario Odyssey 2 -- This is the one of the two games that I'm going to list that I am 100% sure that we will see. Similar to Mario Galaxy, I feel that there is so much you can do with Odyssey that it warrants a sequel, not to mention there is probably a lot of money to be made for relatively low costs as I'm sure they would just use the same engine, but some new assets as well. I think we will see a Mario Odyssey 2 in 2020.

Splatoon 3 -- The other game that I'm 100% sure we'll be seeing shortly. Splatoon has ballooned into such a massive success, especially in Japan that I think a third game in the franchise i guaranteed. I think a trailer for it will be shown off at E3 2019 and I think it'll have a spring 2020 release.

Super Mario Party 2 -- This was a surprisingly fun game, and I hope that we get another one. Nintendo cranked out four Mario Parties on the Gamecube, and with how well this one is selling, I think we could potentially see another one, definitely in 2020, or maybe even this year.

Breath of the Wild 2 -- This is the only one I'm not sure we will be getting a sequel to. There is precedent for it, as shown by Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, not to mention, as I stated with Mario Odyssey, this would be relatively easy game to make as there is already an engine for it. If we do see this game, I say it comes in 2021.

What do you think? When do you think we'll be seeing sequels to our favorite Switch games? Also if there are any other 1st party games made for the Switch that you think will get a sequel that I missed, post them.

No splatoon 3. Let’s start having Splatoon spinoffs( I personally recommend a rhythm game). I think arms 2 will be in 2020

because of the ability for dlc and it's mostly online competitive nature and set theme...I see no reason for a new Splatoon game until they release a Switch successor.

Oddyssey 2, absolutely

Zelda  I dont think we will see a botw 2....but as an ongoing story, of course there will be more zelda games coming.

more Mario party games are surely coming...for good, bad or indifferent

Not before 4th year.

I think a new 3d Mario and new Zelda will launch on the switch 2020. Splatoon 3? I'm not sure I would say it's 100 percent guaranteed, aren't they the same team that handles animal crossing which is currently in development to release 2019?

I don't we're getting an Odyssey 2. I do however, think we'll get a 3D World Spiritual Successor soon. Despite Odyssey's success, there's still a market for more linear, arcade style Mario Platforming IMO, so long as it's not sterile and unambitious like 3D World was. A new 3D Zelda on the BotW engine is certainly a possibility as well. Super Mario Party I think will adopt a 2 year development cycle as opposed to being an annual franchise. This give more time to allow for more polish, and NDCube can fill the gap with content updates a year after the previous game to hold players over until the the next entry. Given that Nintendo wants the Switch to run for at least 10 years, there's plenty of time for sequels and new games of all kinds.

Damn it, I've been thinking of making a thread like this for months! MONTHS I TELL YEE!

Then again ... I guess my question is slightly different ... oh well, I'll make it another time

seems like too soon for sequels

I would only bet for odyssey 2 out of those, but still I think will do something with galaxy games

I wouldn't be surprised to see another 3D Mario...
Splatoon I'm not so sure about...
While it definitely wouldn't be as big of a deal, I think a Snipperclips sequel is definitely possible...
I wouldn't be too surprised if a few years from now we get Donkey Kong, Mario+Rabbids, and Arms sequels...

Have a nice day...
