I've made adjustments to our figures to closely match the leaked NPD figures and posted the December 29 hardware figures. If anything seems off be sure to let me know. I am about to head to bed as it is 2:30am here.

The NPD report (on VentureBeat) says all three consoles are up YoY and the Yearly Chart is showing both PS4 and X1 a little bit down YoY.

That's for revenue, not units. We got NPD leaks from an insider on Era and for the full year PS4 is down 2% YoY and XBO up 1% YoY.

The figure reported by NPD is revenue and not units sold.

Wait, wouldn't that make the gap even bigger?

I mean, for example, the X1X in 2017 was $500 during the whole year, whereas in 2018 it was $400 for most of Nov and Dec.  So, for it to make more revenue while being cheaper, wouldnt it need to have even more units sold?

And that is without mentioning that both SKUs kept having promotions during the whole year.

Or am I missing something?

They Just want to find reasons to say "but".

"December was a big month for Nintendo. Seven of the top 20 games are exclusive to Nintendo systems, which is significantly more than any other publisher. Every Nintendo game is benefiting from the Switch’s success. Mario Kart 8, for example, finished 2018 as the second best-selling racer ever behind only Mario Kart Wii.
Nintendo generated more revenue than any other game publisher for the first time since 2009. That doesn’t include in-game spending, though."

Yeah, December was such an impressive feat for Nintendo. Also for Mario Kart 8 (Switch + Wii U) to be NA's 2nd best selling racer ever. After declining 44% from March 22, 2018 to December 25, 2018, my NTDOY stocks are now rising again.

Over all, Nintendo and PlayStation exclusives did great this year in NA with even 3 ending in top 10.

Top 10 best-selling games in 2018 in NA:
1. Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4, XB1)
2. Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII (PS4, XB1)
3. NBA 2K19 (PS4, XB1, Switch, PC)
4. Madden NFL 19 (PS4, XB1)
5. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Switch)
6. Marvel's Spider-Man (PS4)
7. Far Cry 5 (PS4, XB1, PC)
8. God of War 2018 (PS4)
9. Monster Hunter: World (PS4, XB1, PC)
10. Assassin's Creed: Odyssey (PS4, XB1, PC)

I wonder if Sony will be able to use the statement "The World's best selling console" for 2018 as well.

I know it's a bit off topic but I can't seem to find the thread covering worldwide hardware sales in 2018.

YTD 2017

PS4: 5.46M
XB1: 4.29M

YTD 2018

PS4: 5.33M (-2%)
XB1: 4.34M (+1%)

Wait. I thought the PS4 did ~5.35M in 2017. These are the numbers I copied down:

210.7
398.4
396.7
206.3
187.2
381.2
217
181
305
205
1582
1080

That's a total of 5350.5k. Am I somehow missing 100k somewhere?

Ya I'm not sure, I copied those numbers from another site.

Yes, you are probably right. But that's the thing, i can't prove i'm right or wrong because of how NPD works. I wish NPD worked like Japan or UK.....

But in my opinion, Smash probably is above 4M if we count everything and if we count bundles and games sold at lower prices, i'm pretty sure games like FC5, Spiderman and even GOW must be around 3'5-4M or even more in USA alone too.

Well, we also don't have the correct picture of Japan either, as digital numbers are estimates and with that very unreliable.

Yes, but at least you have retail sales numbers for every game, and that's better than nothing.
