Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Switch in Japan: 2018 vs. 2019 - Final Results

Last year? How about last week? It's just as big.

Last week was a holiday in Japan (Obon Week), so of course there's a big drop afterwards.

The drop is probably mostly due to the new base model and the Lite coming in the next weeks, so people are holding off their purchases for the new ones.

Week 35 numbers have just been posted and... WOW.
I thought the new Switch model would provide a boost to sales this week, but I sure wasn't expecting THAT!
The accumulative ground that 2019 was losing the 6 weeks prior was almost complete made back with this one week alone. Depending on how sales maintain in the following weeks leading up to Switch Lite, 2019 could be at around the same level, or slightly more or less, than it was when the Lite was announced.

And just like that, the losses of the last 2 months got wiped out in one stroke

Just posted Week 36 numbers and the Switch held over very nicely from the previous week's big boost. Switch 2019 now has its biggest lead so far this year at just over 380k and has also topped 2 million sales. For comparison's sake, the Switch didn't top 2 million units in 2018 until Week 45, the week before Pokemon Let's Go launched.

Furthermore, at this same point last year, the Switch had sold through roughly 47.27836186% of its final yearly total. If that same percentage holds for this year, than the Switch would end 2019 with a total of 4,295,398 units sold.

Should maintain 50K+ until the Lite releases.

Another smallish dip next week, and then the Lite shall come out, probably with 100k+ sales when the new base model already reached 90k.

Also, Switch this year is saleswise at the same point as last year the week before Pokemon launched.

Switch is heading for a kick-ass holiday. Nintendo is even dropping the new fit game straight after the lite.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

51k, almost enough to get a 400k lead over last year.

Can't wait to see it reach a 500K lead next week :P

Apparently next week could actually be over 200k... in other words it could jump right past 400k and 500k and go straight to 600k! Now that would be a jump!

Just posted Week 37 numbers.
We have successfully reached the calm, now comes the storm.
