Forums - Sony Discussion - PS5 and PS5 pro (multi-house-hold or dev) versions

each time there is rumours of connection with the next PS console like the PS4 was suppose to "be able to play on phones and etc" but ended up just being a regular playstation console with more power and a share button. Don't think there will be much more to it, although they kinda need to since you could just buy a ps4 pro instead and the PS5 needs to stand out from it.

This would work even better if it would work at all. Nothing of what you said is feasible or useful. I sense a gross misunderstanding of how technology and programming works.

I sort of understand what you mean. But what i mean is crossfire with everything interconnected but usable as separate. So all games game work unlike a pc where only some worked.

The pro of the ps4 is only double the gpu with an overclocked cpu.

I know some of these features might seem unnecessary specially the double cpu.

But I just want PC or game console to be interesting again.

About cost people are right it would be costly but it would sit as a extreme dev unit that could be purchased as a seperate unit only sold by sony maybe.

Is there a better way prbaly hey but i am a tech guy I want to see the crazy dumb extreme done. Is that so wrong lol.

I agree.

If we can have $50,000 Bravia's, and $1,000 Xperia's, and $3,200 Walkman's from divsions loosing money and selling less than 10 Million units a year, then a $1,500 enthusiast PlayStation from Sony's most profitable and highest selling hardware division should be a very easy call to make.

I think a PS5 that is built for the core gamer and game streamer would be an awesome option. Doubling the CPU, GPU, and RAM like you suggest, would be great for both communities within the PS ecosystem. Going from 8C/16T to 16/32 would be great for background task, and video editing. Double GPU's would allow for some amazing things in the VR space, along with higher resolutions, and improved frame rates. Double RAM would be great for higher res assets, background tasks, and especially video editing.

I'm all in for Sony offering more from PlayStation. They have 90 Million people with different tastes, desires, and talents. They could better serve their current customers with more varity in Hardware and Software, and open up the doors to even more consumers in the process.

As we move forward, Sony will be facing competitors that are not going to limit their users. If Sony wants to keep their PlayStation userbase, they are going to need to remain competitive across a range of devices. They are not going to be the only game in town with 3rd party AAA titles and a great AAA 1st party line up next gen. Between Microsoft offering their games on PC, and Google, EA, and Ubisoft planning to offer cloud gaming everywhere, Sony is going to have to give people really good reason to stick with their Hardware, Software, and Servcies.

I know that an extreme box like you are discribing would only reach a very small audience. There might be 1 - 5 million people in the world willing to pay $1,000+ for a PlayStation. The ones that do though, are the ones that also buy every game. They are the most profitable users in Sony's ecosystem. It would benifit Sony to give these people every reason to continue buying their Hardware, and Playing 3rd party titles in their ecosystem.

The rumors of Microsoft's next gen plans look the best IMO. A $99.99 streamer, a $299.99 XB4, a $499.99 XB4 X, and anything from a $299.99 Laptop to a $20,000 Windows Gaming Machine. A range of devices for every consumer. That is what Sony is facing. I just don't see (1) $399.99 PS5 leading the market, against a much more open ecosystem, that lets you play your games anywhere, and at any resolution/framerate you are willing to pay for.

Just imagine programming the PS5 to have printer compatibility (something these professionals would have to have in order for the PS5 pro to be a desktop replacement). Seriously. Just think about that for even a half a second.

I think people expecting 16+ CPU cores probably need to re-adjust their expectations.
These are $400 USD boxes... Not $1,000 or $5,000. - Only so much tech you can fit into it.

Expect a single CCX for the CPU.

The GPU side, expect Vega 64 levels of performance, it's the best AMD has... And it's mid-range, perfect for a console.

16GB of GDDR6 is likely the DRAM of choice.

Consoles are all about trying to fit as much hardware into a box that hits a certain price point of around $400-$500, you are not going to get an equivalent High-End PC or a Super Computer because of that fact.

That is understood. We know the base level PS5 has to fall into that $400 - $500 range.

The OP is talking about an enthusiast/creator version of the console. That is something Sony could sell for anywhere from $1,000 - $3,000. In the case of this proposal a 16 Core CPU, Dual GPU's, and 32 or even 64GB of RAM would be realistic.

Remember, Sony makes $50,000 Bravias, $1,200 Xperias, and $3,200 Walkman Devices. These are all divisions that sell much less than PlayStation and are often not profitable. An enthusiast/creator level PlayStation makes a lot more sense than any of those devices for multiple reasons. It is profitable, it is a device aimed at Sony's most important customers, and it can add value to Sony's ecosystem by giving more creative power to its userbase.

So what? Sony is literally creating bleeding edge technologies (halo products) that most importantly run standard software and files that does not need to be optimized in any way, shape or form for those devices. You don't need to optimize your 4K video file for that $50,000 TV do you? You don't need to optimize your android game for that $1200 Xperia do you (side note: this is just a standard price for a high-end phone), and you don't need to optimize your audio files for your $3200 walkman, do you? It isn't the same case at all for this PS5 Pro, that is, unless your PS5 pro is nothing more than a Playstation-branded PC running Windows (and we all know how you feel about that). It would be treated the same way the PS4 Pro is now (vast majority of developers do the bare minimum to support it) except with such a staggering difference between the performance of both machines would just make it that much more noticeable that the developers don't give a fuck about it, and it isn't worth their time. The fact that most games wouldn't even come close to taking advantage of the hardware would do nothing but enrage any early adopters as they wonder why they spent an extra $1100 on a PS5 that only plays a dozen or so AAA games better, and scare off any future buyers. But hey, those E3 presentations would look spectacular when Sony shows off their first-party games on hardware 99.9% of their fanbase will never own.

TL;DR You're advocating for a bullshot machine. Nothing more.

Not even remotely realistic. - It's never going to happen.
The Playstation 4 Pro is only marginally more expensive and has twice the GPU power of the base Playstation 4 and sold orders of magnitude less.

A device that is even more premium than that will garner even less sales and thus garner even less developer support and thus be totally irrelevant in the marketplace.
Console manufacturers need to build an ecosystem, that means as much support for every device and peripheral as realistically as possible.

I came to say something like this.

When I was young, you used to be able to play games with two people using the same screen.

You still can. But then again when you were young to play with someone else you literally had to go to their house. Now you just click "multiplayer".

Online multiplayer aka the death of local multiplayer.

Technically, the PS4 can be played on phones. And tablets. And PCs...........
