Forums - Gaming Discussion - Devil May Cry 5 is the Best Looking 60 fps game on consoles

UE4 isn't a failure.
Many good-looking console games are using it: Ace Combat 7, Gears 4-5, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Soulcalibur VI, DQ XI, Tekken 7, Hellblade, Days Gone...

Even Square Enix replaced Luminous Engine with this.

Unreal Engine 4 is crap compared to the other game engines I mentioned here. These engines do high fidelity graphics at sometimes 1080p 60 fps on base consoles. Unreal engine 4 games are not as graphically impressive, and run at less than optimal resolutions and framerates on consoles.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is the only Unreal Engine 4 game on consoles which runs 1080p 60 fps but it isn't graphically impressive while Soulcalibur 6 and Tekken 7 are the only other 60 fps games with decent visuals but are 900p games.

Nope. Gran Turismo Sport is the best looking 60fps title this gen.

edit: UE4 a failure? By what metric?

Gran Turismo Sport is definitely up there but Devil May Cry 5 looks amazing on Xbox One X and is 4K 60 fps.

Read the above reply for why Unreal Engine 4 wasn't that good.

I'd consider Yoshi's Crafted World as one of the better uses of UE4, so nah I completly disagree with OP ... especially when Bayonetta 3 is lurking right behind waiting for Gameplay reveal.

Yoshi is not close to being graphically impressive in any shape and form. We haven't seen anything from Bayonetta 3 but as its a Switch game it will not look as good as Devil May Cry 5.

Just checked the gameplay, and nope, DMCV doesnt look nearly as good as Gran Turismo Sport. Infact, GT sport puts many 30fps gams to shame.

Have you played Gears 4? Its one of the looking games of this gen, just look at Xbox One X gameplay. Proves that engine is capable. Its the devs who are just not using it skillfully enough

edit: I've realized "skillfully enough" isnt the right thing to say here. What I mean to say is that a lot of teams eithr have a smaller budget/shorter developer time, or just going for a specific artistic choice that isnt going for realism.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

MGS5 is still the most impressive 60fps game on base consoles. Open world, complex AI systems, complex interactivity, locked 60fps and 1080p on PS4.

Still Unmatched. But yeah the best looking should be Battlefront, what they did was wizardry.

In addition to Gears 4/5 as mentioned by CGI, Hellblade looks absolutely incredible on UE4 and hits 1080p on base PS4 and between 4K and 80% of 4K on the X.

Continuing on with the direction of this thread: :) :).....I really like the look of Ratchet And Clank 2016 on the Pro. Might be my favorite looker overall this gen. Have not paid any attention to DMC 5 beyond the microtransaction backlash, but did just watch a video, and yes, it's quite lovely.

Umm just don't buy he microtransactions? Why rob yourself of an amazing game over nonsense? Just to feel popular with the crowd?

I don't even know how to address this. Neither In basic composition, or tact. ......I'll be brief. I didn't say I wasn't going to buy it. If I squint my eyes, furrow my brow, and clench my anus, I can see how you might have inferred such a thing, but this is not the case.

Gears 4's multiplayer is 1080p 60fps on the X and Gears 5 is pushing for 60fps in all modes.

What UE4 games run at less than optimal resolutions and framerates on both base consoles?

1080p 60 fps on Xbox One X. X! Fox engine and the Resident Evil engine which is used by DMC is doing 1080p 60 fps on a base PS4.

I didn't mean to say that resolution and framrate are less than optimal, but one of them is, so a game may be 1080p 30 fps and another is 900p 60 fps when running on Unreal Engine.

Gears 4 is a good looking game, but the devs had to cut back on either resolution else framerate. Its not like DMC which is good looking as well as runs native 4K and 60 fps.

Digital Foundry themselves have stated many engines to be superior to Unreal Engine on consoles. Unreal is amazing on PC if you have the hardware to push it, but it doesn't do as admirably as other engines designed for limited hardware capabilities.

Hellblade is good looking and runs at 1080p but does so at 30 fps. Its also far from being anywhere near as good looking as some PS4 exclusives.

Devil May Cry 5 looks better and runs at 1080p 60 fps on PS4. Doom looks better and mostly runs at 1080p 60 fps on PS4. Gran Turismo Sport looks better and runs at 1080p 60 fps. Red Dead Redemption 2 and Horizon look way better while running at the same resolution and framerate.

Yes, the X! A current gen machine. :P

Are you doing this on purpose? xD

Hellblade has a 60fps mode on Pro and X. It takes a resolution hit to do so, but that's cos it was designed as a 30fps title.

And I'd actually say Hellblade looks much better than DMC5; the materials, environments, and player character model are all higher fidelity. I'd also put it above several other games made on the engines you list in the OP, certainly above RE7 and MGS5.

While I disagree, a screenshot or video would really help this topic.

You think that would be a given, right? lol

Character models? Yes. Environments? No. Those were two of the biggest games I covered in 2017 and RE7 was, overall, a few notches above Hellblade there. Environments (AO, deformation, Normal/Bumps, etc, etc...) all go to RE7.

Still, I support your overall point.

Fair enough. I guess RE7 just really didn't wow me, I mean it doesn't look bad by any means but it just looked merely decent; character skin looked rubbery, specular was overly aggressive in an almost 7th gen kinda way, and a lot of the textures looked really blurry. Still, I am by no means an expert so you'd know better than me.
