Mario Kart 8 Deluxe finally passed Super Mario Odyssey as bestselling game on the Switch.

I was amazed that Super Mario Odyssey stayed so long ahead of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Which game will be the next to take the throne?

Pretty sure it will be Smash

Its doubtful if a Switch game will take that throne to begin with. In general Mario Kart is a bigger franchise than Smash. I guess it depends on whether MK9 releases. The 20-25 million range is easily possible for MK8 deluxe if 9 takes a couple of years, but I think Smash will have a hard time getting there.

there is no force on the planet stronger than the release of a new main series pokemon game. even with everything else lined up for 2019, nothing is going stop it. its easily going to sell over 14 million lifetime with even a shot at 20 million

Huh, Crash has reached 800k on the Switch already, great numbers. I wonder if it passed the million when combined with digital...

MK8D and Super Mario Party are beasting right now. I knew they would comeback for the holidays but damn both of them doing 400k+ outside of december, pretty sure in december we might see 800k or something.

Smash will probably come close to outsell MK8D if it did 5 million first week. Probably had amazing legs since it's still the best selling game on amazon 1 month later

I don¡t think we will see another Mario Kart game on the Switch. Nintendo use to release one Mario Kart game per console. Smash is big, but not as big as Mario Kart. The competition will be Pokemon 8th generation, but Mario kart 8 Deluxe remains as a strong candidate to rule the crown.

Smash might get above Mario Kart for a short while, but it definitely won't outsell it lifetime. The new Pokémon games are the only ones that could do that, but I'm leaning more towards MK8D staying on top (assuming MK9 doesn't get released on Switch).

I could have seen an original 2D Mario title surpassing it but since they are doing the U thing, I doubt anything overtakes Mario Kart 8. Even if Mario Kart 9 happens (which I never thought would happen and still do not think will happen), I doubt Switch will still be relevant for a long enough stretch to propel the game over Mario Kart 8.

There won’t be one to take the throne next. At best Smash for a short time soon, but Mario Kart 8 is going to reach 25m.
