Forums - Sales Discussion - Rumor: Switch may have outsold PS4 & XBOX 1 combined in December NPD

Interesting...

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense, for PS4 and XBO sales to drop in December. Usually December is much stronger than November. If this is true, then.. wtf happened??

Going to be a fun January NPD discussion thread if true

I think this is very likely to turn out being true. In 2017, PS4 "only" did 1.08 million in December. 2018 is down year over year and PS4 doesn't seem to have any compelling deals this December.

I expect over 2 million from Switch and the ranking to be Switch 1st, XB1 2nd, and PS4 3rd.

Their source is actually Benji from Era. Not that he's wrong, but I'd wait for a stronger source, just to be safe. Considering what released on the Switch, and a lack of PS4 deals, it's believable. But still, better to wait on that.

Didn't they discontinue the $200 Spiderman bundle after November>

I think so.

That's a damn shame - great game, great Christmas present and a great bundle. Would have sold like hotcakes.

Based on last year, I'd say this just about follows the normal trend. Nintendo systems are significantly up, Sony is significantly down, and Microsoft stays close to flat. I think we see this due to Sony putting huge sales on there systems in November, but not in December. Nintendo didn't do many deals, at least ones that you want to jump on. Which leads to people waiting and seeing on the Switch, that leads to a  much stronger December for Nintendo and a weaker one for Sony and Microsoft.

November 2017 http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=233441&page=1

PS4 > 1.582m
XBO > 1.376m
NSW - Between 770k and 900k

December 2017 http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=234263&page=1

NSW - 1.5m
XBO - 1365k
PS4 - 1080k

Ah, I see. I'm not familiar with more recent numbers. I used to pay more attention during the Wii/PS3/X360 days. Thank you for the clarification!

Just one month til official numbers from Nintendo financial report.
If we consider Era leaks as "true", then they are bad numbers for ps4 and one, and normal numbers for Switch. In fact they won't be enough to get the 20m objective for this fiscal year.
As I said, we should wait until January the 31th

Benji is just about the best source outside of when magicpork actually provides the ratios a few days before the NPD group shares what they can :P

But yeah, one should not assume too much out of this nothing is set in stone so anything is still possible, A lot of people hinting at a very very strong December though with several insiders saying far north of 2M is probably a thing which is really really crazy. It'll be interesting to see what comes out of the NPD in a couple of weeks.
