How does one even break down and compare entire year's worth of great games? Impossible I say, so I'm just going to go with the year that is my favorite vintage of Pepsi Cola: 2009

2012 had The Walking Dead,
2013 had Super Mario 3D World.
2015 had Undertale.
2018 had Celeste.

My favorite games are from different years. I don't think I can choose one...

Nice one. As we currently have the greatest 50 games thread, I just counted how many games from each year I had in the list. From the last 10 years 2012-1015 all had the same amount. So I go with 2015. It had Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Pillars of Eternity, Disgaea 5, Armello and Splatoon.

EDIT: Oh, and I see the current poll result shows no recency bias at all. Maybe the question should have been which year of the 90s or 00s was the best. In these cases recency would be out of the window.

Lots of good years here, but nothing beats 2017

Darn, that's a good question. I still have so many games to play from the last ten years, so this could certainly change...but I think I need to go 2017. Breath of the Wild gives it a huge leg up. 2013 is really close. I dunno

2017: The year of PSVR, GTS, Zelda, Horizon, Mario Oddeysey. I think it even surpassed 1998 thanks to VR.

I chose 2018. There were a bunch of good games this year, just like there were a bunch of good games last year, and the year before that. But, generally speaking, the quality of games gets better as time goes on. So, from that perspective, pretty much every year is the best year in gaming, until the next year comes.

I went with 2017, cause that year we witnessed the biggest comeback this industry has ever seen.

For me the best was 2011 because I discovered the PS2 after being only a PC gamer my whole life, then in 2012 I discovered PS3 and later PSP, but now I'm back to my master race roots again.
