LOL, looks like RDR2 already got surpassed by games that came out before it.  Also if you look at user reviews both BotW and Mario Odyssey are higher.  RDR2 is not the highest rated game.

Maybe the OP meant to say, "What games can surpass RDR2 as the most OVERRATED game?"

That list is from Gamerankings not Metacritic, which also has more reviews than Gamerankings. 

And saying that RDR2 is overrated is not a valid argument unless you also want to apply it to Zelda and Mario games.

I can see all of these games reaching a 97 on Metacritic.

Breath of the Wild has more reviews than RDR2 on MC, 12 more in fact.  If you are going to compare decimals without even using the equal amount of reviews for both games, as well as discredit other review sites such as game rankings...

 

Well it becomes an obvious attempt to try to discredit two other games that hold the same score on metacritic rather than a celebration of having three 97s within two years.

 

Also food for thought, RDR2 did not win GotY 2018 but God of War did (a 94 on metacritic), which would suggest that it is the better game (making that 97 for RDR2 kinda meaningless).  Furthermore one of the other 97s (BotW) DID win GotY during its respective launch year.  By claiming RDR2 is the most acclaimed game of the generation, then cherry picking facts that support you while ignoring all the facts that go against you, it only hurts the credibility of your argument.

 

Also I am curious, if MC is the end all, be all for critical acclamation, are you also suggesting that Ocarina of Time is better than RDR2?  I mean it is from a different generation and milestones were different then, but if the number is all that matters...

All of Red Dead Redemption II,breath of the wild and Super mario at 97 and i don't think it matter what's top The other since maybe all of them deserve theirs score(i only played RDR2)
Only next 3d Zelda Game and 3d super mario Game will Get 97 
As for GTA6 no way ut will release for this Gen,but i think it will do it next Gen
If there's Bully 2 this Gen it may get 94-95 but who knows

Huh? Breath of the Wild, GTA V and Super Mario Odyssey have all a Meta of 97 like RDR 2. So maybe not surpassing, but quite some games (from two companies) are sharing the title.

The OP clearly said "on Metacritic", where RDR2 XOne is the highest rated current generation game. 

Not sure the point of the thread is to talk about "Yeah but on another website...". And let's not talk about user reviews, we all know it's worthless trash.

(and no, I don't care about RDR2!)

LOL there a three games at 97 from this ge. I checked Metacritic..

So in reality I cannot see a new game getting a 98. At best they may match the three.

Maybe TLOU2 wil get there. Not sure about Metroid 4 as well we don't know much about it atm. GTA6 don't think so as too much hate for simulator real world violence lol.

But isn't your title misleading then? You only use Metacritic as source, exclude GTA V for ... reasons and use only one version of the game? Shouldn't the title be: What games can surpass the XBox One version of RDR2 as the on Metacritic highest rated current generation game excluding cross gen titles like GTA V?

How are people checking? When I go to the site it say 97 for XBOX ONE and PS4.
