It is hard to understand Japanese mindset with gaming. Superb games like "Judge Eyes" deserve better. I would never know PS4 numbers in Japan are low if were not for this site. The console is so huge here where I live. I feel here in the West SEGA will promote "Judge Eyes" really well so I think it will do great.

portability is really important in Japan. I lived there for one year and I could see people playing to 3ds in train often (I had higher expectations tho). Also, in my opinion, its a society where trends are really important, for example, if smash is a hit, everybody is gonna buy it and talk about it with their friends. So even if ps4 offers a wide variety of famous games in japan (kh, final fantasy, monster hunter, dragon quest...) people will buy the switch and its games since most of the exclusives are too big in the country (pokemon, animal crossing, smash, splatoon, mario, zelda...).

Also I think graphics are not that important as in EU or USA since many people play many smartphone games on trains, bus...

DQB2 on both Switch and PS4 low numbers doesnt surprise me at all,it feels like they announced it ages ago and took forever to release it

Very unlike Square Enix.

Insane software numbers! Smash already at 2 million and Breath of the Wild still scaling that mountain.

Predictions: (actual)

Week 47: 140k (108k)

Week 48: 120k (120k)

Week 49: 310k (281k)

Week 50: 180k (281k)

Week 51: 290k (278k)

Week 52: 140k

Total: 1.18m

Again Switch sold very close to what I expected. I still expected it to be up from last week, as well as the PS4 but it seems things have shifted a bit.

Onimusha did alright, but it is still probably a flop in Capcom's eyes. Splatoon 2 barrels towards 3m physical. I do wonder what the record physical SW was for 3DS and if Splatoon 2 will pass them.

The life style in Japan has people away from the house for long periods from what I've heard so the result is portability has become hugely preferred as people can take their gaming with them.

If I'm not wrong the ones that sold more (from 3DS) than Splatoon 2 in Japan are:

Animal Crossing: 4,9 M

Pokemon X/Y: 4,4M,

Pokemon  Sun/Moon: 3,8M

Monster Hunter 4: 3,4M

Yokai Watch 2: 3,2M

Pokemon Sapphire, Ruby: 3,15M

PS4 matching PS3 is realistic. Switch matching 3DS numbers is possible, but an unrealistic goal. If Switch gets to 20 million lifetime in Japan that's an amazing achievement. But it would be really difficult to predict where Switch ends up being all new systems are coming out in 2020. And we don't know when or what the next Switch revision will be.

Possible by unrealistic.....isnt that a bit of an oxymoron?

Sort of but not. Its an unrealistic expectation. Why does the Switch success rely on beating 3DS? The Switch is already successful. If the Switch is ahead of PS4's install base by next year (which it will be) that to me is a success. So is it possible that Switch reaches 3DS Japan Install base? Sure. It isn't what I would project or expect though based on what I know right now.

It definitely has a good chance then to surpass them all, nothing above 5m. It's competition on the Switch itself has still yet to come though like mainline Pokemon and Animal Crossing.

Yes! its crazy to think that all those sagas (i dont know about monster hunter) are dropping a new main game next year!!

Doing 280k for 3 weeks instead of a 300+ week and others at 250k is fine, just that Switch had a big game this year in early december so the sales are spread over several weeks instead of just the peak of December.
Also, smash being flat this week is incredible. Already 2 million.
Zelda and Odyssey are still going strong.
