Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I bought a 2nd switch but....

This is a strange one, I just bought a 2nd hand switch from a pawn shop. I bought it because I've traveling overseas and my gf wanted to play the switch so wouldn't let me take it.

Upon taking it home I checked the micro SD slot and it had a 200gb memory card, this came as a shock because the guy at the shop told me it had nothing. When i charged it up and turned it on, it had custom firmware with a shit ton of games on it.

Octopath Traveller,

Xenoblade chronicles 2 ,

Splatoon 2,

Super Smash bros,

Pokemon let's Go Pikachu version,

Super Mario Party,

Fire Emblem Heroes,

I didn't even know that the switch was hacked already, I'm guessing I can't go online with this. But i basically picked up a switch with every big title on it, I feel kind of bad though.

What would you do?

It has been hacked some months ago using a hardware exploit in the Tegra chip.

The strange thing is that the latest FW fixed that exploit. So you’ll probably lose everything if you update your system.

I haven't taken it online yet. So I should keep it offline if I want to keep the games xD.

Maybe I'll finish them all first and take it online, i already own a few of the games on the switch and other platforms too.

Sell it on eBay. Use the extra cash you get from the "bundle" and buy a legit one. Probably with a few games.

You think people would pay more for it?

Wow, this is like winning a mini lottery. You lucky bastard, there are enough games there to keep you hooked for the whole year at least. xD

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

A couple of weeks ago I saw a video made by a guy in the hacking/homebrew community and he basically gave Nintendo a standing ovation for fixing this exploit trough a FW upgrade. And all I’ve read coming out from the hacker community regarding this is the same. They are really impressed by Nintendo for fixing this trough software.

Basically you initiate the possibillity of loading custom firmware by shorting some connectior (with in example a paperclip) where one of the joycons slide in. This makes some magic so the tegra sets the console in some kind of mode making it possible to load custom firmware. All of this was based on a weakness in the Tegra SoC. What nintendo has done is unheard of, basically fixing a hardware weakness with software.

I had never heard all of this, you sound quite clued up on it though.

Really am not, just found it interesting. Specially aince the hack was deemed ”unpatchable” initially.

What you should do is play the games. If you feel guilty about it, buy some copies of the games and donate them to charity, or give them away to kids in your neighborhood, or whatever.
