Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Super Smash Bros Ultimate Sold thru (+Digital) 5mil WW first 3days

Pretty sure that Smash Ultimate, will be the best sold Switch game of all time when it is all said and done. Next years pokemon, will probably surpass it initially. But when this gen is over, smash will reign supreme. 10m+ by the end of January, easy.

Let's put it in perspective. If we take price into account (going by US dollars), Sun and Moon made roughly $220,000,000 with 5.5m copies, Smash Ultimate made $300,000,000 with 5m copies. To make the same, S&M would have to have sold 7.5m copies. So, Smash may have sold around 10% less, but it made 136% of what Pokemon did. Them's some numbers, right there.

Cant help but wonder how much more revenue Smash generated with accessories/peripherals factored in.

IIts actually better than that. Sun/moon had no limted edition, smash has different skus that are above $60 msrp!

Its probably the top game of all time in terms of making revenue outside of software. Nothing comes close

Both good points! I was just giving a ballpark estimate anyway. It made a lot more money (and likely sold more consoles) than Pokemon did, regardless. 3DS was near saturation at that point.

Not bad for a game that's "just a port".

On a console which have no games

In any case, let's be honest, whatever Pokémon game comes out next year it's gonna do better than this.

Depends, i need to see the game before i call that. It doesn't have to be BotW status but it does need to be a huge upgrade like from bw to xy (in terms of overhaul). Lets Go is a nice foundation in terms of outside world (walking pokemon/wild pokemon) but it needs a bit more imo.

Should be fun to see.

Smash prints money.
Not only the game butt...
Moving a bunch more systems
Special edition bundle
Pro controller sales
GC controller and adapter sales
Amiibo sales
Hoo boy.

Yes that was a P5 reference.

Not a single Pokémon game has passed 16 - 17 million since the original.

Smash Ultimate is looking at 25 million plus life time sales.

The only other game I can see touching that is Mario Kart 9. Nothing else will come close EVER on Switch.

I mean gold/silver 23M, diamond / pearl 18, sun moon and x y more than 16. They had like 3 years for this new game so I can see it reaching 20 M easily if its good
