Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How Crash Team Racing beat Mario Kart at its own game

Never played Crash kart racing, so i cant say either way, but I will say this:
Its good that Mario Kart dosent have monopoly.Even if Nintendo always strives for quality, a little competition is always good to keep everyone on their toes.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Indeed, Naughty Dog is easily the most diverse developer out their. They’ve created critically acclaimed blockbusters in so many different genres it boggles the mind that they’re all from one developer.

There's some groups that just seem to have the midas touch, at least for a while. Blizzard Entertainment up through the mid 2000's comes to mind, where they seemed to create the definitive game of multiple genres each time they released a new title lol, and Rare had that insane run that included shooters, platformers, and kart racers that were all superb.

Can't think of many others outside of Nintendo itself that really compare at the moment with Naughty Dog's versatility, though I'm sure there's some I'm forgetting.

Not sure how Blizzard is setup, but It’s not the same with Nintendo though, they’re basically multiple dev teams under one name. It’s like comparing Sony Worldwide Studios with CD PR.

I loved my time with CTR as a kid, being over my cousins house. And this looks great...but it's no Mario Kart in my opinion. I love the theme, music, and overall whimsicality of the Mario Kart series more, especially 8 as it has become my favorite in the series. And for me personally, MK8 controls like a dream. They finally got it right, if CTR remake can improve upon these controls for me, that remains to be seen but I'm open to a kart racer being better than MK. Especially with modes.

It didn't though. It was a good game, no doubt. However Mario Kart has always/is still in a league of its own when it comes to kart racers. I mean the very fact that people are trying to dethrone it is proof of that.

Cheap Mario kart rip-off at best. Pointless weapons nobody even knows. Meanwhile MK has iconic weapons. So much so that Crash straight up copied them. Even down to different uses. I have a feeling this opinion/review was moneyhatted. Yes i have played the game. I thought it was crap, the controls were crap and the weapons were pointless ripoffs. Not fit to tie MK's shoes imo and that's MK64 i'm talking about. Probably my favourite game of all time.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Some of your guys who never played CTR are in for a treat. That's all I can say. The only complaint I have is the less charismatic and likeable cast. Glad it's gonna be on every platform. Cross play would be nice but that's not happening.

CTR is right up there for me. I prefer it's slide boosting to Mario Kart and I like that you could get boosts from jumps, including when Aku/Uka rescues you. The weapons were all pretty much taken from MK64 but I liked the way they could be powered up (juiced) by collecting apples (wumpa fruit). Adventure mode is fun and enjoyed going after relics and beating N.Tropy in time trials (Oxide, not so much) I prefer it to most Mario Kart games but I'd say something like MK8 is a good competitor.

I still play CTR to this day and am really looking forward to the remake. I hope Penta Penguin is still playable and as godlike as he was in the original.

Because Crash is much more non-casual compared to Mario Kart. It offers more challenge and feels more rewarding. Its sliding also feels perfect.

That's your opinion and not the majority of gamers opinion.

So what? Majorities dont matter, the majority of people dont know much about anything.

Good video. I fully agree. Crash is much more non-casual compared to Mario Kart. It offers more challenge and feels more rewarding. The sliding also feels perfect.

And next year everyone gets to play the best kart racing game ever made.

If it lacks the ability to play casually then it most certainly doesn’t beat Mario Kart at its own game. The major appeal of Mario Kart is the ability to pick it up and play with friends/co-workers during breaks and lunch hours. A game that isn’t very good for casual play would fail at that.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Its a copy of diddy kong racing, the true best kart game.
