Beating Wii U + 3DS in the US is like Level 1-2. Let's take the Warp Zone and compare them on a Global level.

And there is the level insane, beating in Japan

That's the 8-2 Marathon Level

Beating Wii & DS is Minus World

Wii U was a miserable piece of product, they got ahead of themselves and overstayed their welcome with the casual crowd engagement.

I hope Nintendo or Sony can recover the Japan market at some point in future generations (I think it won't) so not only we get more HW sold but the mid tier game makers get back to make world level games (even if A and AA level).

I would say that considering the HW, portability and sales in Japan Nintendo have more chance to do that.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Final result, Switch victory

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

The totals looked pretty similar for every month except November. Looks like Pokemon Let's Go is what really pushed the Switch over.

Although another perspective would be that Nintendo had a very weak first party line-up all year for Switch, and once they got a solid title then they actually were able to pull ahead of 3DS+ Wii U. If this is true then they should continue to pull further ahead of 3DS + Wii U if they continue to get solid titles in 2019.

But have they lost it on the first place? Japen's population is going to decrease by like 20 million in the next decade or so if I'm correct, and already has been declining due to a number of factors. It isn't Nintendo or Sony's fault that people are having less babies in Japan. The market itself is shrinking.
