Lol at people calling 2012 a crap year yet I and I'm sure many others prefer the walking dead season 1 to a lot of games that won goty before and after.

I will truly never understand how people can consider TWD sea 1 a good game, let alone GOTY contender. I play games primarily for the storytelling, and I’m a bit of a movie buff, yet TWD sea 1 still felt like a complete drag. I thought the acting was mostly painful, and the story felt unimpressive and uninspired. My friend, who’s a filmmaker (but also a gamer), actually came over while I was playing it, and he said too how rough it was. I was bored for most of the game, and I felt little to no emotion—even during the end scene everyone talks about.

I’m not trying to discount or invalidate your or others’ opinions, but I just truly do not get the love this game gets from some people.

Very cool site to track. I don't remember TWD being that popular, guess I really missed the boat on that one.

People don't remember the impact Walking Dead season 1 had. God what an amazing game.

I mean, it arguably bankrupted a company since every game they made after was basically the same again with a slightly different coat of paint and unsurprisingly that wasn't sustainable so it ended up putting a lot of people out of a job.

But I assume you're not talking about the negative impact?

They started the formula of a more cinematic quick time event heavy and less adventure and puzzle centric game with Jurassic Park and it was utter garbage. Then they released The Walking Dead S1 and it was a critically acclaimed hit for its characters and storytelling, made them lots of money and rightfully won many game of the year awards.

Also remember that their earlier games like Sam and Max, Monkey Island or Back to the Future were no hits so of course they did stick to their new successful orientation. It wasn't The Walking Dead which bankrupted them but the lack of proper management and a growth that was too rapid for the small company Telltale was. They became too greedy, spent too much for licences and wanted too much in too short of a time.

GOW is 102 awards now, it's crazy !

GOW is great game don't get me wrong, and I feel it set a fantastic stage for the sequels that will be worthy of GOTY title... but this game -in my humble opinion- isn't deserving of game of the year. I've platinum'd the game and I remember so little of it. It wasn't impactful and didn't resonate after completion.

Red Dead started to climb back up - now at almost 100 GOTY awards- but time is winding down. Looks like God of War will edge it out in the end (deservingly so). Also great to see Spider-Man solidly in 3rd place.
