Chris on Resetera (the guy who does all the Media Create threads and gives a ton of Japanese retail insight) seems to think that any decrease next week will be mininal.

There is no 3rd party on any console that can compete, so even with nintendo taking up the chart do not mean there is no money for 3rd party, because even with their high sales on ds and Wii the 1 million to 10 million games 3rd party sold stlll gave them a lot of money and like someone wrote before, game budgets on Nintendo system are way less than on ps4, so if ps4 need to sell 3 million to break even, some 3rd party developers admit on ds and wii they only needed to sell 50k to 200k to break even which majority of them did, and I am talking about big games, little games needed way less sales. so Carnival games that came out on Wii that just came out for Switch is a game that barely need to sell to make profits. retail only nintendo system already show you people buy more on it, fifa last year version outsold ps4 version.........dragon quest 11 on 3ds out sold ps4 in retail.......Nintendo games have great legs, when fifa drop last year sony out sold it first week, it was not until december with its legs that switch over take
Sony games dont have legs so once a 3rd party move off the chart its gone for good look at monster hunter world it lasted from end of january to April when it stop showing on the chart thats the longest a ps4 game ever went |
Yes Nintendo games generally do well, but remember this The 3ds had like 5x more handhelds in the wild, yet the ps4 was only like 200k units behind with 5x less consoles when DQ11 came out. The Japanese market is definitely not like the ps1/ps2 era where consoles and handhelds sold well. Sony will definitely have bigger digital sales than Nintendo so there’s that.

But yeah, every Switch software did excellent.Every evergreen had a big bump this week and honestly, the start of this week is Super Mario Party, because holy smokes, it increased even further this week to 70K!!!!!Holy smokes, I tell ya!
But yeah, even PS4 did good.That excellent bundle did wonders.Just goes to show that the PS4 in Japan really needs a price cut, and even then, it is needed just to keep the baseline sales decent.Considering all things together though, PS4 had a good run, and will do well when all things are considered.
the next three weeks are certainly going to be interesting.

Switch sells 3 times more than all other hardware combined.
Nintendo has Japan in lockdown at this point; PS4 put up a valiant fight but the Switch is set to dominate for years to come.

Next year market share is going to look crazy.
Switch will be getting games like Animal Crossing & Pokemon Gen 8 along with the possibility of a revision or price cut (possibly both by way of cheaper model).
In addition to that, 3DS/Vita/XBO will all be effectively dead and PS4 will likely have a moderate decline.
