Shantae's Jail bait?

Forums - NSFW Discussion - Shantae's Jail bait?

A fictional character does not have an age and does not adhere to local laws or social conventions. This obsession with age, especially for people well into puberty is ridiculous.

Well clearly nothing controversial that it would make news headlines as still don't know what a Shantae is lol.

In the first Shantae game, but I don't know if she's an adult now or not.

Well, I mean, you're treating a drawing as if it were an actual human being.  If you're going to do that then you have to go all the way, not just whenever you feel like it.  If she was 16 in the first game then she would be in her twenties now.

Though, I do wonder how this "real world laws apply to video game characters" thing goes.  How many times have you committed murder, for instance?

Fair points. Guess I was worried over nothing.

Well, Shantae's been like that since her 1st game, so I guess WayForward are the culprits....? o_o; Also, when did DeviantArt start caring about having a clean image?

True, but I don't want to be thought of as a pedophile because Shantae's 16 and I'm 27.

I had originally planned on writing a couple of paragraphs about sexual ethics, re: the age of consent, the age of majority, and the fuzzy boundaries of "adulthood." But first off "pedophilia" is defined as attraction to prepubescent children, and 16 ain't prepubescent. And secondly, we're talking about a 2D cartoon girl with a decidedly non-realistic appearance, not a real human being. She can be whatever age her creator wants. She could have easily been 18 or 21 or 25 and still had the same design and it be believable, but her creator chose 16. So it's not really anything to worry about. It's like being worried about the moral implications of ripping someone's spine out in Mortal Kombat.

A bit of a background on Shantae, she was created by a feminist and the game is intended to push female empowerment.

On her age, yep, she's 16, because she was born in 2002, although conceived as far back as 1994.
Yeah, some artists draw her older, and other artists draw her younger. In the original game

But to be real, I looked up the person who said she was 16, and it wasn't her creator (Erin Bell). It is unlikely age was a concern of theirs when developing the character. The more recent art of Shantae looks a lot younger than the art from the earlier games, so perhaps her later character is 16, but her earlier art looks ambiguously mid-twenties to mid-thirties.

I thought she was at least in her early 20s, otherwise people would've been outraged that she's running around without a shirt.

Nope. 16 year olds are totally legal

Bet Shiken that COD would outsell Battlefield in 2018. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=8749702

16 is legal in some countries.

It is pretty much all of Canada, but it doesn't feel right knowing she's still two years shy of adulthood.

Well, legal, but totally inappropriate! =D

14 is the legal age where I live (although prostitution and stuff requires an age of 18), but that is not the terms of what the culture says is appropriate, just the law. I'd say a man in his thirties with a woman below 20 is seen as generally disgusting, even if it is legal to go as low as 14.
