Forums - Gaming Discussion - Monster Hunter World Expansion Iceborn Announced for Late 2019

I would much rather they start working on an all new game instead. I've already beaten MHW, and sure, maybe by then I'll be ready to go back for another playthrough, but it'd be cool if it was a whole new game instead.

I'm going to poke Kero intensly if they release the expansion at a 40$ price tag :P

$40 is perfeft. Much better then making this a new game and charging $60.

It is a bit far away, by then we will be having a million next gen rumors.

DAMN looks like my plan backfired. I didn't by MH world as I was waiting on the inevitable G edition

An expansion requiring base game is a questionable choice?

What do you think an expansion is supposed to be?

You know Monster Hunter expansions in the past like G and Ultimate did not require the base game right?

...what?

The past expansions WERE the base games, just with the add on content. You HAD to purchase them to get the add on content. If you were in Japan you HAD to pay twice to get all the content. It's no different from a game of the year edition, except whereas you can get all the content from a GOTY edition buy buying DLC, in the past you had to buy the game twice.

To say that they do not "require the base game", when the ultimate edition is literally the base game with more content, is just mindblowing. It doesn't make sense. In the past you were paying the price of a full retail 3DS game twice.  So how are you suggesting they make it "standalone", by re-releasing the game as an Ultimate edition for $60 with NO other means of buying the extra content?

I would just like to say: I told you so.

Not anyone here necessarily, but I've seen on this forum quite a few times people implying that the new content would be dispersed through an Ultimate Edition rather than as downloadable content. I kept saying that didn't make sense, considering the digital attach ratio of consoles and PC compared to the 3DS, as well as the amount of storage. But nope, people just kept talking about how they'd have to rebuy the game as an Ultimate Edition.

That being said, I expect there to be an "Ultimate Edition" that acts like an average re-release edition. It will probably come sometime in Q4 2019, if not then Q1 2020. You just won't have to pay another $60 for the expansions this time. It will mostly be an option for those who are new to the game and want all the content.

Looking forward to this. Frankly, I was expecting them to have something ready sooner, but hopefully the wait will be worth it.

Yeah, the game had some decent updates in the first few months, but after that it seemed like updates have mostly stopped.

Yeah but they also charged full price for them. Now that's fucking questionable. Great to see the expansion done right.

Anyway, Capgods just keep on delivering. Aloy and Geralt working together on PS4 and now this expansion coming next year. What will life time sales for world end up being? 20m+? It will be years before we get a world 2 next gen. This one is going to keep them going for so long.

Sales have stagnated for the game and it's currently at 10M as of late august, I dont think this expansion will push the game another 10M. Still, a massive success, best selling Capcom game ever I believe.

I'm honestly a little bit worried about how this franchise's popularity is going to be going forward in the West. And this is coming from someone who never expected World to flop and always thought it would be at least successful (unlike a ton of the fanbase). I still expect the 2nd game to do very well, but I must admit I'm a bit worried about attachment rate sequel to sequel. Even I as a fan got tired of the game in like two months.

I was considering pulling the trigger to buy the game, but I think it's better if I wait for some sort of definitive edition, hopefully alongside the expansion. We'll see.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

They re-released basically the same game with some updates back then.  So if they contunued to use the same politics you would need to spend a lot more money in order to experience the new content.

Agreed. Although, Ultimate and XX were both stand alone sold at 40$ on the 3DS which means they're expecting you to pay the same as a 3DS game for add-on content.

Honestly if I were you I would cross my fingers for them to sale it at 30$ price tag instead.

Yeah but $40 was full price for a 3ds game. This is ps4 and full price is $60. A ps4 game is built to a whole new level compared to 3ds. Probably why they have a gap. If $30 is your price then just hold off a few months and get it on the first sale.
