Forums - Gaming Discussion - Monster Hunter World Expansion Iceborn Announced for Late 2019

Iceborne will introduce a new quest rank, new monsters and new areas, and feature a story that carries on from where Monster Hunter World left off. Series head Ryozo Tsujimoto said the expansion would be similar in size to older 'G' or 'Ultimate' editions. More information on Iceborne will be shared in the spring.

Thanks Hiku for more information and video above. (At work, cannot view it just yet)

It has been stated by some (not sure how official) that it will require basegame, which I think is questionable choice, but still should do amazing.

An expansion requiring base game is a questionable choice?

What do you think an expansion is supposed to be?

The expansion before the inevitable MHW2 for the PS5 and next Xbox.

You know Monster Hunter expansions in the past like G and Ultimate did not require the base game right?

All previous MH expansions didn't require the base game they were stand alone.

Yeah but they also charged full price for them. Now that's fucking questionable. Great to see the expansion done right.

Anyway, Capgods just keep on delivering. Aloy and Geralt working together on PS4 and now this expansion coming next year. What will life time sales for world end up being? 20m+? It will be years before we get a world 2 next gen. This one is going to keep them going for so long.

Correct me if i’m wrong but didn’t you have to buy the “improved” version with G rank before? How isn’t this cheaper than having the buy the same game a second time for 60$ (or 40$ on the 3DS) ?

Sales have stagnated for the game and it's currently at 10M as of late august, I dont think this expansion will push the game another 10M. Still, a massive success, best selling Capcom game ever I believe.

Since it's taking this long to release the expansion, it should be pretty massive.

Looking forward to this. Frankly, I was expecting them to have something ready sooner, but hopefully the wait will be worth it.

Right now this does not have listed price. However should hopefully be $40 at most for expansion that requires the base game.
