This is not acceptable in today's world. Get it sorted Nintendo. 

I read about these issues a lot of resetera so I'm not surprised. 

I don't really understand what most of is being talked about in this thread. If you do Quick Match its a quick match that's what it is. If you go into the other option you can literally pick from a list of rooms of what exactly you want. You can literally be in a room with only 1v1 matches. Or you can create your own room with whatever set rules you want and people can come in and out as they please.

Things get better once you unlock elite smash but encountering any 4 player item matches is way too many if you have it set for 1v1 battlefield no items

I keep hearing complaints about lag, and just wondering what game everyone else is playing. I dunno, but the experience has been pretty solid for me. Maybe it's cause I live in a big city, and people are more likely to be close to me?

Yeah but the GSR doesn't mean anything so its pointless. Better off just creating a Battle Arena. You can make an Arena where you literally battle every match and you can set the rules exactly how you want. If you really want competitive matches join a league or go to a tournament. There is no really good ranking system in any online game. People who are saying Splatoon 2 has a better ranking system I don't see it. Once you get to the top Rank you are at top rank it doesn't matter. And that still doesn't mean you are the best at the game. Real competitive action is going to be LAN since Smash doesn't even use dedicated servers. But the online competitive scene will be in leagues in Battle Arena, not Quick Play Matches. 

The first time I played a round, it was incredibly laggy. Just got off three rounds and it has been much smoother. Dunno, guess it can happen occasionally and I simply had beginner's bad luck.

That's possible too. Whatever, it's working better now.

For me one 1 of 10 maches lag so much it’s basically unplayable. But the other maches seem fine.

I bame the russians and polish. If I look at my smashtags it’s really surprising how many pf the, are from poles or russians. The logical thing would be to match me against people from the nordic countries (-iceland, sorry iceland :( )

I hate how we can't do co-op online. Mario Kart does it.

My experience with 4 resumes to a couple of battles online. Both have a lot of lag.
Was that my fault or anyone else?
That experience was something that made me skip the online completely. But this thread seems to be focused more on matchmaking.
