Lol, if over 80 million is your worst selling console you are waaaay ahead of the game.

That’s why it amazes me when people put down the PS3’s numbers. It is still the 5th best selling console of all time, even though it’s the worst selling PS home consoles

No one puts down PS3 numbers. Its just that the PS3 had playstation deep in the red (losing tons of money, having a net loss) from 2006-2009, and barely broke even the rest of the years. It lost Sony more money than it made them, by a significant margin.

Thats why I and some others suggest that it wasnt as successful as it looks.

Otherwise, youre right about the numbers, 86 million is nothing to scoff at.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Around the Network

It was only a matter of time. At the pace the console was selling, it would've been surprising it didn't surpass the 360, with the PS3 really soon. Hopefully it surpasses the PS1 in a couple of years.

PS4 is gonna end up selling north of 120 million units, giving it a good third place for all-time.

Congrats to Sony. They played all the right cards this gen. Heres to another great gen.

The PS4 didn't play all the right cards. There are lots of things it didn't do that the PS5 hopefully will. Lots of room to improve on the PS4 launch and first few years.

The PS3 launch was a failure. The system took Sony four years before it turned a profit. The only reason it sold so many units was because Xbox360 and PS3 was the longest generation cycle. The PS3 turned the ship around and was successful in the later year of it's cycle but overall it was dark time in Sony Playstation history.

In the end all of PS3 shortcoming gave way to the extremely successful PS4 launch and becoming the darling of this generation.

! would go on to say that both consoles not only benefited from that extra long gen but needed it , with the PS3 and 360 it wasn't just about the extra time to sell more consoles and games the longer the gen the longer time you have where mature hardware with its decreasing costs is giving you the most money back , this extra time helped  lessen Sony's PS3 launch and 360's RROD  outcome ,the other benefit in Sony's case was it also meant when the end of the gen finally came about , the network breach and subsequent outage had been put to bed with PS4 arriving at a time when PSN was no longer seen as second rate.
