Good thing there aren't more iconic RPG series that deserve a representation for Smash Bros. over Persona.

You may not agree or even like it, but Persona is a top tier RPG franchise, either by fan or critical reception.

Good get, boring trailer.

but I do think its funny how a character with no connection to Nintendo (and an IP that isn't associated with them) have a character.

Persona Q2

People said the same thing about Snake and Sonic back in Brawl. Do you still see people complaining about non-Nintendo characters joining Smash?

Smash stopped being a celebration of Nintendo history ever since Brawl, to become a celebration of gaming itself.Give the game a few months in the market and all this feeling of "There certainly were better characters to choose from" will fade away like dust in the wind.

It will, but it still doesn't feel right.

Anyway, I'm just salty that this jokah made it and not Elma (or Reyn).

Does it really resonate with the bones in your body that "Ahh, this character was on Super Famicom back in the day. That makes his moves feel so much better!" when you play or see those characters in action in Smash?
I honestly couldn't imagine something like that ruining my enjoyment of a guest character in a videogame. So seeing some of these negative comments is pretty wild.

I can understand if someone doesn't know Joker because they haven't played any of his games, or just don't care for him. That's fine.
But not that it hinges on which console his games have been on.

And on that note, Persona Q2 is out right now, so I think he has played a larger role in a game on a Nintendo system than Cloud did.

I think this announcement is something everyone should be happy with because it is yet another indicator of a "near impossible" choice that actually made it. Meaning that pretty much whatever you want has a chance of making it in.

Don't like it. A character with hnoistory on Nintendo doesn't belong in Smash

@melby
So let's say a character you love from a franchise not on a Nintendo platform, who you think fits great in the playstyle of the game, bringing with them great music, and an amazing stage, you wouldn't want that character in Smash?
Can you explain why you'd rob yourself of that enjoyment just because they have no history on Nintendo? (Joker does, since Persona Q2, however. But that's besides the point.)

I'm really disappointed. Almost legit pissed.

@ARamdomGamer
Of all the characters they could have announced, this particular one would make it seem like nearly any character is possible, don't you think?
It also shows that Nintendo are in tune with what a lot of people want to see is Smash, even when it comes to unconventional choices that you don't expect will actually happen.
So comments like these are surprising to me. It's one out of five upcoming DLC characters, and considering all the other possible non-ambitious characters this could have been, like a Gomba, I didn't expect anyone to be outright pissed at this. Disappointed, sure. Since we shouldn't expect everyone to love all 5 of the DLC character choices. But I would never be pissed at a choice like this even if I wasn't a fan of the character, because it shows that the sky is the limit. And I there could be way worse choices for a character, stage and music than a Persona character.

As for your first question, it's an unexplainable feeling, but more or less. Furthermore, it doesn't ruin anything, simply put, it's just a minor, trivial annoyance. Depending on his moveset, he could also become one of my preferred fighters, I don't know, but his announcement doesn't really excite me a lot given the circumstances I stated.

Not exciting, or 'maybe interesting when I see him in action', etc, I understand all that perfectly fine.
I don't understand "he has to have a history on Nintendo consoles" causing an annoyance.

Next is going to be a FE protag (most likely the one from Three Houses). Especially if they make the announcement a bit before the game's release this Spring.
