I dont see how they could invest more if for instance all their teams were hard working on games in any case. I mean they had some very strong games in 2017. some very strong games at end of 2018. and they will have some very strong games in 2019. Failure, what failure? There is no failure in any case.

They failed to have a strong Q1/Q2. If your teams are all busy, outsource to or moneyhat third parties, or better yet, expand your first and second party teams ahead of time, like they should've done years ago, so that they never have a problem providing a steady stream of big games.

Outsorce some big internal games to 3rd parties could complicate and not do much, also just expanding teams cant gave results, simple, strong/big games need time in any case.

Outsourcing games has given great results on numerous occasions going back to the SNES days. Stop making excuses for them, they've been given years and years to fix this problem, first it was "oh they need to get used to HD development" then it was "oh they're supporting two platforms". There are no longer any excuses for them to ever have a stretch as weak as they did this Jan-Oct.

You can, but its hard to have strong hole 1st year and strong hole 2nd year, if thats was easy Nintendo would done that. They one of reasons why they had little slower than expected sales in Q1/Q2 of FY18 year is because Yoshi and Fire Emblem were delayed.

It's doable though, Nintendo just didn't invest enough to make it happen. The possibility of Labo not taking off should've been shored up with core heavy hitters in Q1 and Q2. They have only one platform to support now, they're adapted to HD development, and they have had years to expand their studios, buy up second parties, and court/moneyhat third parties. The days of excuses are over, any failure to deliver now is solely on Nintendo for not properly planning ahead.

They had plenty of 1st/2nd party content this year.

Jan-Kirby Battle Royale, Pokken DLC pack 1

Feb-Bayonetta 1+2, Odyssey Balloon World DLC

Mar-Kirby Star Allies, Detective Pikachu, Kirby DLC pack 1, Pokken DLC pack 2

Apr-Labo Variety, Labo Robot

May-Tropical Freeze, Hyrule Warriors, Dillon Heat Breaker

Jun-Sushi Striker, Octo Expansion, Mario rabbids DK Expansion, Mario Tennis

Jul-Captain Toad, Octopath Traveler, Kirby DLC pack 2

Aug-WarioWare

Sep-Labo Vehicle, Xenoblade 2 Expansion

Oct-Mario Party, Luigi's Mansion

Nov-Pokemon, Kirby DLC 3

Dec-Smash Bros

It just wasnt filled with mega sellers or games you personally want.

DLC/Labo/ancient ports/borderline shovelware are not good enough.

Not good enough for what exactly?

For a company of Nintendo's caliber.

Kirby, Mario Tennis, Octopath & Mario Party are borderline shovelware? Nope, those are all solid mid-tier titles in terms of score and sales. Yoshi & Fire Emblem were sadly delayed out of this year which would have given them 6 mid-tier games in the Jan-Oct period which is pretty good output.

They're all filler, the kind of games that fit between the showpieces, not showpieces themselves.

One must not have a very high opinion of Nintendo if they think this year is truly the best they can muster.

I thought DLC, late ports & shovelware were filler? Brand new entries in popular franchises are not filler titles.

Some franchises are filler in themselves, the sort of thing people buy in between the big A-grade games but which aren't really system sellers or major events in and of themselves. I mean, it's nice to have a new Kirby, but it's not in the same league as Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Smash, or Splatoon 2, for instance.

Anyway, I can just see this turning into a days-long slog so I'm just gonna skip to the end and just say that I'm sure we can all agree that 2019 looks much better and that hopefully it is.
