Rumor: Nintendo plans to release a Zelda game on Switch every year

Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rumor: Nintendo plans to release a Zelda game on Switch every year

"Nintendo shipped Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Switch’s launch in 2017. Hyrule Warriors, another Zelda-themed title, was added to the system’s library earlier this year. This streak may continue in the future, as Eurogamer claims that “Nintendo is keen to have a Zelda game launch on Switch every year.”

The company has many possibilities at its disposal going forward. Last weekend, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma seemingly teased Skyward Sword for Switch. Nintendo could also bring over the Wii U versions of Twilight Princess and Wind Waker. There also hasn’t been a new 2D Zelda in awhile, and we’re bound to get another 3D entry at some point – just not next year."

Sounds like they want to do a mixture of spin offs and remakes to release a Zelda game every year. This is not unheard of either, during the Wii U and 3DS days, Nintendo practically released a Zelda game every year. I hope we get more spin off games and a remake of skyward sword, inbetween the mainline games of course.

That's not surprising, that's been the rule for a while now. 2D game, spinoff, remake, spinoff, 3D game, and so on.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Put every traditional 3D Zelda on the Switch and I'll buy every single one of them again. But give me Skyward Sword HD before porting the other ones.

I'll also get whatever the next 2D game is as long as it has the Zelda formula. So yeah, just give me more Zelda, Nintendo.

2013-Wind Waker HD/Link Between Worlds
2014-Hyrule Warriors
2015-Majora's Mask 3D/Triforce Heroes
2016-Twilight Princess HD/Warriors Legend
2017-Breath of the Wild
2018-Hyrule Warriors DX

There has been at least 1 Zelda game every year since 2013 so this isn't a surprise, either a Skyward Sword HD or new 2D entry is my guess.

Haha, so basically what they've been doing most of the time since Ocarina of Time. There's only been 4 years since then where no new Zelda, remake, or spinoff has been released. If we're talking core series, those are rare, usually only 3-5 years, and those are the important ones. If we're talking about flagship Zelda games, well, there was a 19-year gap between Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild, and a 7-year gap between Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time.

I'd really enjoy a Zelda 2 style title. Overhead world map with 2D sidescrolling and lots of towns. Although bump up the controls to something like Shovel Knight. Although, I'd love something along the lines of Muramasa the Demon Blade or Hollow Knight.

Wouldnt be unsual. As already said, one Zelda a year has been happening for a while now.

That sounds horrible dont make zelda the next asscreed T_T

Adding skyward and twilight to the switch is great but other than that they should chill unless they remake the N64 games

Spinoffs? Eh. Here for the remakes though and hopefully more 2D goodness

Difference is, there talking remakes/remasters, spin-offs and mainline included as a whole.

We ain't getting a mainline Zelda game on a yearly basis anytime soon xD
