Well that's embarrassing...

Sorry it's late here (in Australia) and I worked 14 hours....

Well now that I'm here does this mean I might have been right?

I'd still say no - the Xbox One X will have plenty of legs - especially if Scarlett is backwards compatible...

Even if we assume it only does like ~3m in the holidays of 2019.
It should be able to do the last 3mil or so, to hit SNES numbers by end of 2020 imo.

Xbox One should outsell the SNES going by current sales data.

"the Xbox One X will have plenty of legs" (to outsell the snes? yes, but in general? no, I doubt it will have great legs)
once the Next Xbow is out (Xbox Two?), I suspect the Xbox One sales slow to a crawl.

While I could see the PS4 sales continue to sell okayish the first few years into the PS5's life cycle.

3 million seems like a longshot for the next 7 weeks, that's what it did last year and is down ~32% YoY, a bit over 2m seems more likely to me.

Right.... still... the last 4million should be possible in 2020 or 2021? right?
It ll be a slow crossing of the SNES, though.

I fear XBO sales in 2020 will resemble Wii U sales 2016: The one thing the base is waiting for is the successor...

But I could be wrong. Are there any big exclusives coming to Xbox One next year?

Yup, and 50 million is a lock. In North America alone it will sell at least 1 million units from Thanksgiving until Christmas.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 151 million (was 73, then 96, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 57 million (was 60 million, then 67 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

It could, but I very much doubt it.

XBO will sell at best about 4.5M this year, not far above what the Wii U pulled during it's best years (3.6M), and which would put the console just over 45M. It sold 2.6M so far this year, and that's largely due to the January-May period, where the console wasn't too far behind previous years. But since then, sales have really broken away, and when in previous years 65k was the absolute floor, this year we dropped to about 35k. Out of the 1.02M the XBO lost compared to last year, 740k came from June through October (edit: And that constitutes about a 43% drop YoY). The console's sales are slowing down more and more, and with the next gen in sight, I doubt that the XBO will sell above 3M next year, or over 1M in 2021.

No. The generation is at an end and the X1's momentum will only continue to slow. Microsoft's consoles have historically fizzled out pretty quickly at the end of generations. 10 million is too much of a gap for them to overcome.

Halo Infinate? around the time the Xbox Two launches....

I didnt vote because I was looking for the maybe option. I think it's close. They may drop the price and make it a great entry level console that could close the gap. It's hard to tell.

So possibly also a launch title for Scarlett.

And nothing else until then to boost sales?

On the other hand, maybe it's already past: https://segmentnext.com/2019/11/13/xbox-one-sales-reach-50-million-new-earnings-call/

Outside of Japan, the XBO has already passed the SNES. In the U.S., the SNES sold 20M; the XBO passed that mark at the end of 2017. According to VGC's estimates, the XBO has sold over 3M more units than the SNES in Europe. But in Japan, the SNES sold over 17M, while the XBO has so far sold less than 109k. That's what's holding the XBO's global numbers back.

Absolutely. The Japanese market is critical and Microsoft need to address the issue, if the 360 had been able to perform at a halfway decent level in the last gen the PS3 never would have passed the 360 for lifetime sales.
