Skyward Sword and The Last Story were two big games for the Wii period, let alone just for 2011. Pandoras Tower also released then and was a very decent game though you could tell smaller budget. That kind of re treading through a game I will give you was excessive.

Which region are we talking about here? Cos The Last Story and Pandora's Tower only released in Japan in 2011, and not until 2012 in PAL and 2012/2013 in the Americas.

I was just speaking in general, but yeah, different regions did have different release dates.

But Nintendo sold 85M+ consoles with the 3DS and the Wii U combined. What is the reason to say that the Switch ended the "dark ages of Nintendo"? Do you think the Switch will top 85M+?

So are you implying that unless the PS4 can surpass the combined sales of the PS2 and PSP, it is a failure?

The PS3 plus VITA sales are relevant to WiiU plus 3DS sales, so did Sony flop in gen 8?

Also by your logic, the PS4 only now comes close to breaking even from last gen after five years, which by your logic, was a failure anyway.

I mean, if that is how success is to be measured, it should be the same across the board, correct?

Why are you insinuating me things that I never said? Did I bring anything up about Playstation?

I asked why 85M+ sold consoles should be considered as a dark age for Nintendo? And what makes the Switch end this dark age? HE considered 85M+ sold as a dark age NOT ME in his post. And I said that if 85M+ sold is a dark age what makes the release of the Switch the end of this dark age since imo it won't sell much higher than that (if it even reaches 85M).

PS4 doesn't need to outsell it's predecessors to be called a success because they are already on a very very high level (almost impossible to beat). As long as the Playstation 4 still sells strong and makes good money for Sony it's a success for them.

Is this serious post? Switch is selling great, Nintendo games are selling great on Switch and Nintendo again making huge profit (much bigger than in period of 3DS+WiiU). I don't see how anyone with little sense can call that "dark age for Nintendo".

And yes, Switch will probably top 85m+, but its not like Switch needs to sell so much that we could say that "dark ages" for Nintendo are over.

Where is your problem? I never said that this is a dark age for Nintendo (op used the term) and I never denied the profit of the Switch. I don't know how it compares to 3DS and Wii U but I doubtthat it is "much bigger profit" than the 3DS and Wii U. Switch might top 85M, but we don't know that yet. Imo if you want to say that Switch overcame the dark ages for Nintendo it would have to be much more profitable for Nintendo than 3DS and Wii U combined.

You post clearly imply that you think that even is "dark age for Nintendo" you doubt that Switch is ending dark age for Nintendo, I gave you clear facts ( Switch is selling great, Nintendo games are selling great on Switch and Nintendo again making huge profit) why Nintendo with Switch isnt in dark age in any case.

You can doubt whatever you want, I talking about clear facts. But thats a point Switch is already making much bigger profit for Nintendo than 3DS and Wii U did combined. Also, curently 80m is like minimum that Switch will hit, even 100m+ is possible at end.

Great Profit, that's it. Total hardware numbers don't matter, but profits matters.

Rol has already said basically what he should. Just want to say that it is important to note Nintendo in 2010 and 2011 that almost abandoned the Wii, the video game was dependent on Metroid Other M and Skyward Sword, which are not even a good version of their respective franchises. At the end of the revolution that was the generation, Nintendo stopped releasing games to stationary console to focus on 3DS and this also contributed to the later period. The couch arcades games that were at the heart of the Wii system were abandoned by games more like Gamecube games, like Other M and Skyward Sword, so the console had low sales as had the Gamecube.

They released Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story worldwide in 2010-2011, and they were relatively huge games and XC is critically speaking the best in the series. Pandora Tower which admittedly was a lower budgeted game than the other 2 was still a very enjoyable game in its own right released. They also had Mario Galaxy 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns, and No More Heroes 2.

2010 and 2011 easily beat out 2008 and 2009 as far as quality games (well depends on how mush you like Smash Brawl and Mario Kart Wii) at least in number of games released, it was an uptick.

Last I'd also like to mention Skyward Sword and Other M were solid games in their own right. Arguably not the best in their series which is a matter of opinion, but far from bad games. I mean correct me if I'm wrong but weren't their more main dungeons in Skyward Sword than in BOTW?

Xenoblade is not a system seller. The Last Story is also not a system seller. The two were released after a long time, in a limited way. The Zelda and Wii Metroid are the games of their respective franchises that have less appeal to the public, despite the large installed base, did not sell well. The good pace that started in 2010 came from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Donkey Kong, Wii Fit and the Mario Bros. Collection. All couch arcade games, the strogest pillar of the Wii.

Skyward Sword is though, and Xenoblade is gaining popularity with every title, don't count that out. As far as last story, a system seller it may not be but you can't deny the importance of a mystwalker jrpg.

I would also argue that Xenoblade and Splatoon are two of the most important new IPs of basically (we're a year  short of 2 decades since Smash was a new Ip) the last two decades.

Really, you think the Dark Ages started 2011? The Nintendo (console) Dark Ages has been around since 2001 losing most of their third party supporters and fanbase to Sony and Microsoft to the point that they're aren't considered serious competitors anymore in the core gaming scene which is a huge loss considering Nintendo started the serious console wars craze with Sega.

They got a big break in 2006 with the Wii but then Nintendo had no damn clue on how to follow up the Wii's casual market success. They tried to market the WiiU to casuals and core gamers but failed cause they cheaped out immensely on the hardware specs thinking it would be another Wii-hit wonder and with Nintendo's pride so high up their asses made it only worse to get third party support.

This Nintendo "Dark Age" is nothing recent it's as old the NintenDOOM threads and predictions.
